Gran Turismo 6's Go Karts Invade Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5 aims to be the best racing game ever by including lots of new content, such as kart racing.

New modes for Gran Turismo 5 [http://www.amazon.com/Gran-Turismo-5-Playstation-3/dp/B002BSA1C6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1282225803&sr=8-1] that were hinted at earlier in the year have been confirmed for the long-awaited racing simulator. In addition to a course creation utility and 3D support, the game will also let players ride in a go kart.

Go karts were planned for Gran Turismo 6, according to a statement by Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi, as he talked at GamesCom. However, Yamauchi says, go karts were included in Gran Turismo 5's release after information about them leaked to the press. Yamauchi says kart racing is unique due to the "dynamic movements specific to karts" and "peculiar racing geometries and suspensions," in addition to the driver's own movements. It's an interesting new mode for racing fans to look forward to.

Also detailed at GamesCom were Gran Turismo 5's expanded B-Spec mode, a custom course generator, and 3D photography. The course creator is being called a "course maker" because it's not an extensive editor. It allows players to set parameters and to have a random course generated based on them. Yamauchi thinks people will enjoy GT5's updated B-spec mode, where players guide an A.I. driver around a course rather than driving themselves, because he was finally able to add all the features he wanted, such as driver personalities and full knowledge of all race conditions. Finally, Gran Turismo 5's support for 3D televisions allowed the implementation of a 3D photography mode that 1up [http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3180955] said looked "striking," and it supports the Multi-Picture Object (MPO) 3D image file format.

Polyphony Digital must be full of ideas if it was having to cut them for inclusion into Gran Turismo 6 over Gran Turismo 5's approximately six-year development period. Gran Turismo 5 looks like it's shaping up nicely and should be well received when it finally makes it out of the gate Autoweek [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101393-E3-2010-Gran-Turismo-5-Gets-Desperately-Needed-Release-Date] that we "won't have to wait as long" for Gran Turismo 6, as much of the work on 5 was developing a framework that won't have to be created for 6, so that's a relief.

I've never liked GT games that much, but damn this is turning me into a graphics whore.

Hopefully the Go Kart's add a party game type appeal to it, at least something that's easier to pick up and play. Though Mario Kart would still be better for that overall obviously ^_^

Will I seem really obsessed with racing if I say I'm genuinely excited about features like these more than the actual game?
Perhaps "obsessed" is the wrong word.

Gran Turismo was the racing game that got me into sims. Kinda sad how now, with what is probably the best one coming out, I don't care. With Forza 3 already out, and F1 2010 coming out this fall, I don't see how I could car about GT5. F1 2010 looks like the racing game I have always wanted. Gran Turismo, while a great driving game, isn't a great racing game. Driving isn't fun as much, racing is fun. And unless the traditional GT AI is improved, I won't care.

Heh, whoever's playing the game in that video is terrible, they're all over the place, absolutely no skill behind the wheel :p.

As for the go-kart news? Sounds fun, though I still prefer motorcycles in a racing game. PGR4 holds the crown for me, still :D.

Y'know, it would be hilarious if Polyphony Digital said that this was the reason why fans had to wait an extra few years for the game. Ah, I can imagine the forums and forums of hate already...

AI seems to still take the same line no matter what, but besides that this can't come fast enough for me.

I thought that, but it looks in several places like they're deliberately driving to show off the way the kart works and handles.

So I think they're probably messing up on purpose.

quite a few go carters end up going to formula racing and a few even going to formula 1, some of our best f1 drivers came from a go cart background, so i can see why they might think it is an important addition to a driving game.

And so what about the AI racers? yea i hope AI gets improved, but we will have online multiplayer, either way gt5 is going to be a epic racing games with the different modes. tons of vehicles, god rally racing and go carting and ferraris yes please.

ah but does it do karting in the rain, that'd be a fun demonstration of handling.

I think Sony is just having too much fun with the game. Thats why they don't want to release it yet.

As someone who's not a racing sim fan and not a car nut at all, I'm.. nope, sorry, still not excited about this.
