Sega and PlatinumGames in New IP Deals

Sega and PlatinumGames have signed a deal for four new games based on new IPs.

Details for three of the titles were provided but the fourth remains hidden for now.

The announced games were Bayonetta, Infinite Line, and Madworld.

Bayonetta is positioned as an action-adventure title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The protagonist is a reborn witch doing battle with angels and will feature "witch-like abilities" along with decidedly unwitch-like ones, such as guns blasting from all extremities.

Infinite Lines places the player in the role of a spaceship captain and is inspired by an Arthur C. Clarke nove, Childhood's End. More than 200 ship designs will be available.

Madworld is designed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and will showcase black-and-white visuals with only the blood in color. Developers said they are keen to help diversify the Wii's rather homogeneous gaming selection with an emphasis on stylistically depicted violence.

Oh yeah, I can already smell the snobs evangelizing the game because of its artsy choice.

Well, I saw a little teaser vid for Madworld... it reminded me of No More Heroes, but in Black and White.

The black-and-white plus red is already being done in Saboteur, where areas with no "Will to Fight" are portrayed in black and white, with the only red objects being fire, blood and the red of the Nazi flag/logo. Areas that have had key German officers killed in will work up the will to fight, and with it the colour increases to regular full colour. It's a really interesting use of colour as a gameplay mechanic to show what can't otherwise be represented, atmosphere, attitude and character knowledge. Like the way Altaïr can sense if a person is an ally or enemy by watching their behaviour, it's represented by that person's outline glowing in a given colour after watching them in first-person view.
