Marvel Comics Considering Live-Action Shows

Marvel Comics is thinking hard about live-action TV shows based on its characters. Here's hoping they're better than the lame 1970s TV movies that were made.

Marvel Comics has definitely become an entertainment powerhouse over the last decade. Between the movies, the cartoons, and the videogames, it's safe to say that Marvel's successfully recovered from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy it had to file for in the 1990s. However, one area of the entertainment business that the publisher hasn't had much of a recent presence in is live action television (aside from <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Blade-Complete-Kirk-Jones/dp/B0010TDRP0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1284574497&sr=8-1>Blade: The Series). From the sound of things, though, that might be changing in the near future.

Speaking to MTV, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada (vaguely) revealed that his company is considering such a project, but he's not confirming anything at the moment:

"We didn't have a television network, and now we do. We're part of ABC, ABC Family, and ABC Studios, and Disney XD. We're part of a bigger family. This opens us up to so many, many incredible ideas and creators that want to work with us, not just in comics or animation or film, but now also in television.

"We're talking to some people, we have some great ideas, [and] we want to make sure that whatever we come out with first, whatever we decide to come out with first, is explosive and just has everyone smiling from ear to ear and saying that is quintessentially Marvel.

"Anything and everything is on the table. We're thinking about every possibility for Marvel."

the 1977 Spider-Man TV show on CBS.

Mylie Cyrus as a young Spidergirl? Jason Earls as Daredevil?

Anyone else like to chime in on how unbelievely bad a Disney Marvel mash-up with Marvel Properties and Disney actors could be?

(I don't actually think this will happen, but even one or two could be amusing...)

I cannot put into words how much I hate this idea. Live-Action needs to drink some paint thinner and retard itself out of the gene-pool.

Preferably immediately.

This is unfortunate because, yes, I can only see the Marvel Shows with Disney Actors, and that is a big source of RAAAAAAAAAAGE!

But if they use different actors... this could actually be ok. Bot great, but a good thing to watch if nothing else is on.

If they make the Hulk, however, the NEED this song;

PS: Rorschach and Deadpool. F*** YEAH!

Or some of the direct to video 90s films. Ugh.

Not a bad idea. Most comics would work better in a serial TV setting rather than movie after movie. Still, we all fear what Disney might do to any property, either for content, or by shoving "actors /actresses" down casting director's throats. I'm personally afraid of Spidey getting the Smallville treatment.

My only real desired prject: Runaways + Joss Whedon directing - any influence by Disney.

The only good marvel an disney show would be wolverine, the punisher and deadpool going on a killing spree against all the characters from disneys other shows ala texas chainsaw massacre but it won't happen cause disney will no doubt get involved with the creative aspectsand soon we get a crappy modern day batman tv series-esque but involving the x-men or spiderman without the benefits of adam west's so bad but good acting and nostalgic campiness that made it great and a classic. Hopefully they'll leave well alone personally if ou wanna create a good marvel tv series that links in with the film continuity, then a tv series about shield would be a good idea. Or a new version of the blade series but with joss whedon directing and/or writing. But as its disney itll never happen and we'll get some crappy hannah montana meets black widow series or god forbid an x-men series with the jonas brothers . Please disney leave marvel to do its own thing, its done well in the films don't screw its ideas for television shows
