LittleBigPlanet 2 Developer Chose Delay Over Patch

Media Molecule isn't releasing LittleBigPlanet 2 until it's satisfied that every fan will be able to enjoy it properly.

LittleBigPlanet 2 [http://www.amazon.com/LittleBigPlanet-2-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0K780/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1286286140&sr=8-2] slipped [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103728-LittleBigPlanet-2-Slips-to-2011] from its November release date to early 2011 late last month because it needed more development time. Speaking at the Eurogamer Expo this weekend, Media Molecule boss Alex Evans said that the studio had decided to delay the game rather than fix it post-launch because not every fan would necessarily be able to get a patch.

Evans said that the game was functional and some version of it could have made the release date, but that Media Molecule wanted to put out something that it was proud of and that LBP2 needed just a few more weeks to make it "super amazing," rather than just "amazing." Patches were out of the question, as not every PS3 is connected to the internet, so the decision was made to delay the game's release until Media Molecule was happy with the version on the disc.

"I'm really sorry the delay frustrated people, even us," he said. "I mean I really wanted to get this game out for Christmas so hard. We pushed ourselves but realized with just a few more weeks we could make it perfect." Evans added that the game would live forever, but that the delay would soon be forgotten.

LittleBigPlanet 2 is scheduled to be released in January 2011.

I think it's good they delayed it. I was rather amazed at how quickly number 2 came, was announced and ready to get shipped. I knew they immediatly went on to number 2 after the first, but still. Things need time. I don't know how much use a few weeks are in final development, but I'll take anything over a bugfest.

Very good point. Delays are short term, video game quality on the other hand can ruin franchises.

That is super amazing.

Normally most would be like "fuck it, just patch it later".
Glad to see MM doesn't do that.

People will hate a broken game a whole lot longer than a delayed one. Glad that some companies recognize that.

Sounds like someone's been hanging out with Mr. Miyamoto. Good thing too.

It wasn't a big deal, but remember in LBP1 where the "My Moon" counters for whatever those three things were never worked? If they don't want to do that again, I say give them the time to fix the game up.

You know I'd like to see some proof from these developpers and publishers and what not, give me a video example about what is one problem that needs to be fixed, then I'll believe you didn't delay because of the other games in the holiday season.

They don't want to release a half-arsed game? This company has my respect, if not my money (no PS3) :(
