Microsoft Exec Compliments ESA CEO

Robbie Bach, Microsoft's ESA representative, has thrown his support behind ESA chief Mike Gallagher.

Rumors of trouble and dissent at the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) started when major publishers Activision and Vivendi left [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/83598] the organization, closely followed by LucasArts [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/83932] and id Software [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84080].

Microsoft entertainment executive Robbie Bach, who served as both ESA Chairman and remains Microsoft's representative on the board of directors, believes that the departures of Activision and Vivendi were due to their ongoing merger [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/79490], not the leadership of ESA Chief Executive Officer Mike Gallagher.

"Mike's doing a great job.... I think he was the right hire; I think he was a good hire," complimented Bach. "But he's had to deal with a lot of change all at once, so that just makes his job harder than it probably needs to be."

This doesn't downplay the huge impact felt in the ESA by the loss of some of its biggest supporters.

Bach noted, "Certainly we have to assess the impact of not having them as dues-paying members. That does have an impact."

Because we all know someone who represents Microsoft for the ESA is going to insult the head of the ESA. Sorry, but he may be slightly biased.

While Bach is surely biased, I bet you wouldn't hear praise from the Activision rep....

We'll have to see if this anti-ESA sentiment spreads to other ESA members.

I call circlejerk. Although Gallagher has to be given some credit, at least. I bet he's earning half the salary that his industry counterparts are, especially given how half of the ex-ESA corporations have pulled out and went out to make megabucks following their speedy exit. Judging by the whole 'political candidate' thing the ESA pulled out, and seeing just how little the current members are donating to that - then I'd be surprised if the ESA CEO makes half a million.
