Composer Confirms Lords of Shadow Sequel

According to the guy behind its soundtrack, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a more manly Castlevania game, and there's more of it on the way.

Lords of Shadow hasn't been out for a week yet, but it seems that Konami was pretty confident that it would be successful, and has already put Spanish developer MercurySteam to work on a follow-up.

The confirmation come from composer Oscar Araujo, who created Lords of Shadow's soundtrack, in an interview with Spanish radio. He casually revealed the sequel when he said that people who enjoyed the first game should be hopeful that the second was even more spectacular. It was known that MercurySteam was working on a new game, but until now, it wasn't definite that it was more Castlevania.

Araujo also revealed that Konami was keen to change the series' image, and had asked him for a "rough, aggressive" score, in contrast to the more "effeminate" Castlevania games of previous years. He added that Lords of Shadow was both an evolution and a new beginning for the series, and so everything, from the music to the characters, had to be built from the ground up.

I've played the DS Castlevania's and SotN, and the music never really seemed "effeminate" to me.

Ooooh, is the point of view going to change, where it's like Kagero: The Deception and you control the lord of the castle and try to kill off pesky Belmonts?

Also, Castlevania music wasn't effeminate. It was butt-rock, good butt-rock.

If my memory serves me well, Castlevania never had an "effeminate" soundtrack and I've played plenty of Castlevanias, even Castlevania 64 had a great soundtrack.

Symphony of the Night was the pinnacle of Castlevania's soundtracks, with Rondo of Blood coming second.

If by effeminate they meant CLASSY and AWESOME, like all of, say, SotN's soundtrack, then nooooo, I don't wanna lose that ;_;

I suppose they could mean that past works will look effeminate by comparison, which could be awesome. However, seeing as that is not the case, I would advise them to review staples of the classic Castlevania soundtrack and reassess that incorrect statement.

As for the sequel underway, I'm actually glad that they're making another. I haven't completed the first game, though I'm about midway through the second disc, but so far it's been mostly good with occasional moments of pure awesome with bone-crunching frustration peppered about evenly. I think that a sequel with more diverse mechanics and polish could be pretty damned fantastic.

If you look at the threads about CLoS in the forums the majority of people agreed that the soundtrack wasn't anywhere near up to Castlevania standards. I loved the game but the soundtrack just didn't do it for me and made me even happier not to have spent an extra $20 on the CE with the music on CD.

I never heard of the game before until I gave it a go with the demo on XBL.

I was stunned, the story and emotion seems genuine and real for me. It engaged right away and my wishlist is becoming crowded but naturally I lack the funds to purchase them all on day one.

I am debating between Enslaved or Castlevania, if anyone can help me out with precise arguments please PM or quote this message. Fable III and Assassins Creed: Brotherhood are already confirmed titles for me!
Is there a place nearby where you could rent either title? My plan is to rent C:LoS to play through it and purchase it later if I could see myself replaying it relatively often.

I haven't really been following Enslaved, so I can't offer any specific advice on which I think looks better.

Oh, his music is great but you gotta take his commentary on perspective, he's Spanish (from like Spain) and from my own personal experience with my friends from Spain, everything is effeminate (not generalizing but you know...) if it's not part of their own personal taste or if it is Anime. And I believe he was talking about the Castlevanias that are a bit more Anime than the old-school (Castlevania Dracula X and beyond), and before you try to attack me and say something like "Impossible, Alucard is the manlier man evah!!!, just think about the bad guy on Castlevania Curse of Darkness for the PS2...

I got the Limited Edition. I never get the LE or Collector's Edition of anything but I was waiting for 2 years for this title to come up and I got some cash for my b-day so what the heck. I'm stunned... The Graphics, the music, the controls... Everything is soo cool, without mentioning the story which has me really intrigued.

Not just You Belmont, they(he?) Vampire go kill.
Or You Monster you don't deserve to exist! (or be part of this world) --- What is a man, just a miserable pile of stuff piled on together or something. And it's frickkin Picard/Charles Xavier giving the narration. The thing is don't go in expecting to whip candles for hearts or breaking stuff for porkchops.
And although comparisons are inevitable, it's not God of War. It draws a lot from it and GoW is still better at it, but a really different experience altogether. Also I saw in another site that finding where to go in the platform sections is hard, but the shimmiable edges and platforms GLOW showing you what you can and can't hold on to.

The game is good, the vistas are jaw dropping and the exploration elements more open and fun than other games. (Maybe not as secretive and full as SoTN but its real good, you'll keep on comming back at the stages to see what you missed or what was down the other path you didn't take. The only advise I can give you is don't check out the Trophy/Achievement List, specially the secret trophies, you will spoil yourself who the FINAL BOSS is and you will hate yourself for it (or the game) specially when you are like only 2 hours in and 18 to go.
Trust me (a person you've never met) It's not worth it.

Also don't go in expecting Vampire Killer or Bloddy Tears or whatever, you'll walk out crying and possibly demanding something lame like make SoTN2 (kidding :D).
