Duke Nukem Forever Gameplay Footage Glimpsed

Gamers have gotten a glimpse of some new evidence that Duke Nukem Forever isn't vaporware after all.

Jace Hall, a video and television producer who headed Monolith Studios for 10 years, showcased snippets of gameplay during the debut of his new show, the Jace Hall Show.

The brief footage appeared to showcase the Doom 3 engine, and featured the usual assortment of guns, explosions, and one-liners frequently associated with the classic entries in the first-person-shooter genre.

Game Director George Broussard said Hall played through parts of missions featuring the Hoover Dam and "large outdoor environments."

So far however, 3D Realms has made no official statements about when the game will be released or on what platforms.

Unimpressed. Let's hope the humour will support that game. Let's also hope that since I don't see how it could be a revolution, it's at least going to play like an old Doom.

Slap an army of chimps with a smile? I would pay good money to see something that awesome.

So the ten year long wild goose chase goes on ? Maybe by 2027 we'll even have a demo. If the programmers don't die of old age first.

What? In the video the developers claimed it was an in-house engine that they built. Though visually it does look a lot like Doom 3's engine, it may just look very similar.

Eh, maybe it's just an in-house modification of the Doom 3 engine.

This is exactly the sort of mentality that's going to kill the game. I don't think the developers want to make a revolutionary title. Hell, it's Duke Nukem. I wouldn't even expect any revolutionary titles. I think the goal at this point is to just deliver another Duke Nukem game already instead of trying to make the latest and greatest.

After all, the mentality of most shooters has evolved in an entirely different direction than where Doom and Duke Nukem were years ago.

How can it possibly take so long to make this bloody game?

Mountain ranges have been formed quicker.

I believe that the developers' excuse for how long it's taken are Cocaine, whores and World of Warcraft. It's plausible.

Well then kill it.
Why should I care?

Maybe you didn't notice, but my post did contain bits about if it has humour and is like Doom, I'd play it.

EDIT: Of course, if there's no revolution whatsoever, why the fucking delay just to get some fancy graphics with basic physics and randomly stupid AI? it's all the more absurd.

I concur. I believe overuse of WoW is responsible for the long delays.Whores for the bad design decisions. And lastly only someone sniffing snow can be so hyped about releasing a game years after the genre it belongs to lost it's shine.

I'm too young to have played the old games, so I'm not exactly getting a huge stiffy over it. I only really know Duke from the trailer and him pissing off people on WoW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE3KdcTgrno

Well, they kept rebuilding the damn game to try and keep up with current systems, are also a bunch of developers from the early days so if they really did get lost in Everquest and WoW during development it would be of no surprise to me, and for a long gap they likely did absolutely nothing with it. I think now they just got tired and decided they'd make the game and be done with it.

It's a similar situation to Too Human, only taken the other direction. With Too Human, Silicon Knights is still trying to be revolutionary, but there's a lot of people with a "wait and see" mentality there because it's so different. With Duke Nukem Forever, as long as you shoot things and it is funny, people will want it. I don't know if I would even want them to try something new with it.

Also, I'd wait for some official and real videos to be released, because that was some crappy sample footage.

Probably not, it would feel extremely forced.
Reminds me that I would play MDK2 one more time.
