Buy RPGs, Help Save Lives

Good news for Lawful Good RPG fans: if you donate $25 to a good cause, DriveThruRPG is willing to give you over $700 of games and supplements.

When you think about ways to help contribute to the relief efforts surrounding the <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_flood>Pakistan floods, buying pen-and-paper RPGs probably doesn't come to mind. However, DriveThruRPG.com is offering a massive electronic bundle to consumers, the proceeds of which go to help <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9decins_Sans_Fronti%C3%A8res>Doctors Without Borders (an excellent group that is definitely deserving of donations).

For the most part, the collection comprises a list of supplements and/or RPG aids that I've never heard of (though many sound pretty nifty). However, some of games included, like Dragon Warriors, Spycraft, and Exalted are pretty well-known and carry rather hefty price tags.

The DWB Pakistan Flood Relief Bundle is an incredibly beefy digital collection of RPGs and supplements that is apparently worth a grand total of $724.46, though it is currently selling for $25. If you're an RPG fan, you could definitely do worse than to kick in some cash to a cause as good as this and get some great rewards in return.

Here's the breakdown of what you get when you buy the bundle:

I have heard of none of those. Oh well i'll check it out.
Seconded... looked through the list, not a single title I recognize. No offense, but that's a bad sign, I'd rather just grab one decent RPG than a bundle I'm never gonna play. Not that that undermines the fact charity goes to a good cause, but just sayin'

Wait, not this ultimate GM screen 2?

http://www.fatdragongames.com/images/fdg0070aw10.jpgThat would be ridiculously good value. I mean, it's made out of cardboard but it still looks awesome.

Oh. I thought you meant Rocket Propelled Grenades. I was somewhat confused by the title because of this.

The only game on that list I've heard of is Exalted and I would say to anyone thinking about it the pack is worth it just for that as its a very fun game.

While I think this is a nice idea, I'm way too cynical in seeing it as Drive Thru RPG are just giving people a load of intro books at what is basically 0 cost to themin the hope people will like one of the games and buy the suppliments. All in the name of charity. *stands and applauds*

DWB/MSF are great, and one of the charities I regularly donate to. I don't play RPGs, so I'm going to continue donating the regular way, but I'm really glad that Drive Thru RPG is doing this--it raises awareness for DWB while awarding being charitable.

*thumbsup*

Hehe, I'm in the same boat as you. Been playing too many FPS's... (wait, nevermind, no such thing)

Yeah I saw this and was like:
Buying rocket propelled grenades...saves lives...
What?

OT: I might just do this for the sake of it...
goes to charity after all and it's not like i'm getting a bad deal at my end either.

Wow, it sounds like an amazing deal, unfortunately, I'm not into P&PRPGs and I don't live in the US to even order these.

I've just got two questions:
1) Do you get physical or electronic copies of the books?
2) If physical, can you still order from Norway? (North Europe)?

It's true, from an overseeing stance one can easily be cynical about a company 'using' a charity in this way, however, from the consumer standpoint (such as mine) these would have been games I would have never been interested in purchasing and it is going to be all worth it just to learn a new game (or thirty) at the cost of practically nothing-per-game.

And if I just so happen to like one so much that I invest more money into it through Drive Thru RPG then that is when EVERYONE wins. As far as it is right now, the consumer wins with the DIRT cheap games, the charity wins with the incoming money, and the company has to have faith if they make money or not, and if their faith pays off then they can afford to do more charity events like this. Yay!

Also, Exalted will now be the first game I try!

Wait...not all of these are video games are they? Because I pulled a major WTF!? when I saw Exalted on that list. If there is an Exalted video game, then MUST HAVEZ!!

Not a bad deal, shame I hardly recognize any of those games...but 25 bucks for THAT many games, I have no right to complain if some of em turn out crap.

Start off as a Drgonablooded, it keeps the game fun and less overpowered. I remember me and my buddies doing a solar campaign and holy shit wtf Hax. Unless you really make the quest hard, their Charms act as an ex machina that compensates for their shit HP.

Dragonblooded are just awesome and so much more fun to play as since it requires more teamwork and thinking. Haven't dabbled in the other races though.

Its nice to see the opptimism I had beaten out of me at school still alive and well in the community :)

Just a warning about Exalted, it can get very silly very quickly. The best description I ever heard of it was "In D&D, a max level party can rule a city and kill a God. In Exalted thats a starting Character"

An interesting idea, but honestly I refuse to donate to help countries like Pakistan any more; and no it's not for a racist reason, but for practical reasons, for a $25 donation I'd be amazed if $0.25 got to the people that needed it, that's how deep the corruption is embedded in some of these countries.

So while I feel empathy for those suffering, I refuse to donate a single cent that will end up in the hands of warlords, criminals, and politicians who do more to harm their people then any natural disaster.

And yes that counts charities like Doctor's without Borders, those same charities have admitted to paying bribes to the scum for safety and access.

I was about to post this, so I checked through the previous posts just in case.
