Sixth Halo Novel Named, Dated

The next Halo novel will introduce a new set of Spartans this fall.

Halo: The Cole Protocol will be written by science-fiction author Tobias S. Buckell (Crystal Rain, Ragamuffin) and published by Tor Books, the producer of both of Buckell's hits and the past two Halo books.

Following Spartan Grey Team "on a mission far outside the confines of UNSC space," as described in previous novel Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, the adventure "takes readers into an unexplored conflict of the Human-Covenant War where unlikely alliances are formed and shattered."

Former Bungie Content Manager and Microsoft's Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor commented, "Buckell continues an excellent tradition that's now a solid aspect of the Halo novels, bringing a fresh new perspective to a limitless universe and bringing his prodigious writing talents to bear in ways that will surprise and engage fans of the series and newcomers alike."

Considering all the games bill Master Chief as "the last living Spartan". Bungie must have some seriously clever justifications for introducing yet another squad of green meanies into the universe.

He is never said he is the Last Spartan, he was the only one to survive the fall of reach though.
He is just the most followed one.

Read the books dude, after Reach there are at least 5 Spartans running around blowing stuff up in their big green boots.

It's probably just one of those continuity errors that spring up when the writers and the marketing dapartment differ in opinion.

Ghosts of Onyx left me jonesing for more. Although it was far from the plot, and it didn't actually include Master Chief. I'd love to see where the next one takes us, since the squad leader on Onyx nuked himself. Yes I read all the novels, even the prequel. And the Master Chief graphic novel. And I loved them! What!? Sue me.

Oh dear lord! LET IT DIE! After both the last game and last book being rubbish, isn't it time that someone put Halo out of it's misery?

As I saw neither the last book nor the last game as rubbish, I disagree. There's plenty of room in the Halo backstory for more novels, and I suspect that Halo Wars and Chronicles will expand that even further.

Of course, not everyone agrees... but those who don't can exercise their mighty power of not-buying and by that means express their displeasure.
