PopCap Games Puts Everything On Sale

For the week of Black Friday, PopCap Games has slashed its prices on everything it has to offer.

PopCap Games isn't fooling around with its first holiday sale this year. Rather than making things complicated with daily deals or hourly discounts, PopCap has straight up cut its prices in half for every downloadable title available on the company website.

From today until November 29, every PopCap download game is priced at 50% off. The list of titles included in the sale, Plants vs. Zombies [http://www.popcap.com/allgames.php?et_cid=39945157&et_rid=f9a9e0da-d90e-102c-853c-000423bdb490&linkid=http%3a%2f%2fwww.popcap.com%2fallgames.php], Peggle, Bejeweled 2, Bookworm Adventures, and Heavy Weapon. All in all, there are 50 puzzle/casual games to enjoy at half of their normal price.

PopCap now joins Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in their zero dollars [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105547-PSN-and-Xbox-Live-Kick-Off-Digital-Holiday-Sales-Tomorrow], but it's still a good sale.

Steam, the big player in the digital distribution space, hasn't announced its Black Friday sale yet, but you can bet one is coming. With the new wave in digital distribution holiday sales, it's hard to imagine ever buying games at a different time of the year.

Okay, guys, I will feel really shameful now and I could just Google it - but, what the hell is Black Friday? I know it's, like, the day after Thanksgiving or something, but why all the sales?

Also, is it for the U.S.A. only again?

Yes, you should feel ashamed. It's the day just after Thanksgiving, ie, just after the biggest holiday before Christmas, so stores have a lot of merchandise in stock. Black Friday was instituted as a sort of universal sales day, think of it as an unofficial holiday. It's used to help move most of that excess merchandise before the new year (and new records) starts. And the holiday is American, yes. As it was started by American stores. But the sale probably extends across the pond too.

If you live outside of the States, the "day after Thanksgiving" is 1. in October (in Canada, not even sure if Thanksgiving exists in other Commonwealth/former Commonwealth countries) and 2. Nothing special. Instead we have Boxing Day after Christmas. Black Friday simply doesn't exist in Canada, so you have to drive across the border for savings.

AND I WANT BEJEWELED 2 and I'm still beating myself up over missing the day when it was given away because of a little thing called a job. Dang.
