Incredible Artist Brings the Best Zelda to (Cartoon) Life

A Canadian artist has depicted (almost) all of the bosses in the legendary Zelda: Link to the Past in a wonderful and lively cartoonish style.

Yeah, that's right, I said it: A Link to the Past is the best Legend of Zelda game. That's not to say that Ocarina, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess aren't great games in their own right, but the 1991 SNES adventure is pure 16-bit perfection.

Canadian artist Matt Cummings must agree, as he's spent what is presumably a not-inconsiderable amount of time recreating ever major boss from LttP in a series of colorful drawings. (That is, every major boss but Agahnim, but nobody cares about him.)

The art is absolutely superb, with some great action poses that manage to perfectly capture the cartoonish feel of Link to the Past while still feeling like a raging battle. It's worth noting that Cummings has done his Zelda homework - Link is using the correct weapon/item against every single boss, for the most part.

My personal favorite is Trinexx (seen here) but really, you can't go wrong with any of these - check them all out at Cuded [http://www.cuded.com/2010/11/zelda-bosses/].

I think if they took that art style and made a series of shorts (minus voice overs of course) depicting each boss fight; I would buy that in an instant and love it and those responsible for its creation forever.

I agree 100%. And I'm quite saddened that Nintendo hasn't made a Zelda of that style since The Minish Cap for GBA (especially because I hated Phantom Hourglass and thus skipped Spirit Tracks as it appeared to be more of everything I hated).

I think my favorite drawing is Moldorm. He's looking at Link like "Hey, where are you going? Stay away from my butt."

Is there an online gallery we could get a link to in order to check out the rest of these? That image makes me interested to see the rest of 'em.

Majora's mask was better than all of them.

Yeah, that's right, I said it.

Majora's Mask did feel "right" if that makes sense.

I was very fulfilled by it.

Don't forget DeviantArt... I'm watching him on there as well. Boy was I excited to find this set of pictures just squatting in my watcher box for me, one day.

Yeah, I definitely got that. I think the thing was that loads of characters had their own little story that played out over the 3 days. The time limit means they didn't have to be constrained by looping continuously, and some npcs even had full arcs going on unnoticed until later on when you explore new areas (like the kafei wedding thing)

It made the whole world seem very real to me.

Ahh! The eternal ALTTP VS. OOT struggle.

AKA the eternal struggle between 2D and 3D gameplay in the series, if not the entire action/adventure genre.

I'm all about 3D, so you can guess where I stand on this. As a matter of fact, I think way too much people tend to overrate 2D gameplay these days out of nostalgia and/or lack of skill at playing 3D games.

About the drawings, they are absolutely great. The art style, specifically the lineout, is a little bit too 1940s for my taste, but that's irrelevant. On its style it is lovely done.

Eh, I much preferred Link's Awakening on the Game Boy, to be honest.
Then again, it was the only one I ever played all the way through and completed when I was a kid >.>
I love that game <3
Still, these are pretty good, from what I'm seeing :3
