Apogee Returns With New Duke Nukem Action
Apogee Software, a name famous with gamers of a certain age, is making a comeback, and it's bringing an old friend along for the ride.
Founded in 1987, Apogee Software was an early proponent of the shareware distribution method, and had a long string of major PC hits to its credit including Rise of the Triad [http://www.3drealms.com/keen1/]. While still technically known as Apogee Software, in 1996 the brand name was abandoned in favor of 3D Realms, a label the company had launched two years earlier to support its entry into first-person gaming.
Apogee is marking its revival with the return of one of its greatest franchises, bringing all-new Duke Nukem action to gamers in the Duke Nukem Trilogy for the Sony PSP [http://www.nintendo.com/ds]. The different versions of the game will feature the same storyline but will take advantage of each platform's strengths to provide a unique gaming experience across three alien-bashing episodes: Critical Mass, Chain Reaction and Proving Grounds.
"It's funny how what's old is new again in this industry," said Apogee co-founder and CEO Scott Miller. "Many of the things Apogee pioneered are back in style, so it only makes sense to bring back Apogee and its properties with a visionary team that will once again create innovation for gamers around the world."
"This marks a new beginning for a famous publisher with a history of market-making innovation," added Terry Nagy, chief operating officer and also a co-founder at the company. "I can't think of a better character than Duke or a better franchise than the Trilogy to usher in a new era for Apogee."
Along with Duke Nukem, Apogee revealed its plans to bring back other titles in its catalog, and said it would also be collaborating with "diverse creators and developers" to publish all-new properties. For more information, check out apogeesoftware.com [http://www.apogeesoftware.com/index.php].
