Eidos Ends Conflict Creators

Pivotal Games is getting shut down as part of its parent company's restructuring routine.

Back in February, SCi Entertainment, Eidos's parent publisher, announced a program [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/81873] to "product improvement and efficiency and a considerable cost reduction plan." This efficiency and cost-cutting was to include up to 25 percent of the staff.

The first studio subject to this restructuring is Pivotal Games, developers behind Conflict: Desert Storm and its sequels, who will be losing its entire staff over a period of three months following nearly one hundred employees made redundant today.

SCi's corporate changes were announced as Pivotal's last title, Conflict: Denied Ops, was released with no news on another project for Pivotal.

The company commented, "As part of this process Eidos confirms that despite reviewing a number of alternative options, we are closing Pivotal Games but we will be keeping a team of 10-12 specialists in Bath [the British headquarters] - who will work on specific projects for the group."

"The number of jobs which will be made redundant at Pivotal Games will be between 93 and 95, not the rumoured 99 which has been mentioned by some websites," stated Eidos. "With regards to reports of the remaining staff being made redundant after three months, this is absolutely untrue. The retained artists will be considered part of the ongoing team and structure at Eidos."
