Rumor: Hawkeye to Appear in Thor Movie

A year old rumor sputters back to life thanks to insiders who have allegedly seen an early version of the Thor movie.

Sources close to the Thor movie are suggesting that the Oscar nominated actor Jeremy Renner - who will play bow-and-arrow wielding hero Hawkeye in the Avengers movie - will make a cameo appearance in the Kenneth Branagh's Thor.

The rumors [http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?nid=26369] that Hawkeye would have a role in Thor started over a year ago, when Renner - who was only in talks for the part at the time - said that he thought the character would have a cameo in either the Thor or Captain America movie, and then follow it up with a larger role in the Avengers film. Renner later downplayed [http://www.movieline.com/2009/12/jeremy-renner-shooting-kind-of-took-my-soul.php?page=2] the idea that he would be appearing in Thor though, saying that it was just an idea that Marvel had had, and it had been blown out of all proportion.

But an insider who has supposedly seen a rough cut of the film has confirmed that Renner is indeed in the movie, although didn't say exactly where he turns up or what he was actually doing. They did confirm, however, that Samuel L. Jackson - who plays SHIELD boss Nick Fury - does not appear in the movie.

Obviously this is just a rumor, so the usual rules about taking it with a pinch of salt apply, but it's certainly not outside the realms of possibility. Marvel has all kinds of crossovers between the movies, and for a character like Hawkeye, who isn't going to get a movie of his own, introducing him to audiences before The Avengers comes out makes a lot of sense. Marvel isn't going to spill the beans on this before Thor comes out though, so we're going to have to wait until May 6th, when the movie hits theaters, to find out.

I think it's possible for too many chefs to ruin a meal. There are tons of characters I'd like to see in movies, but I think throwing too many characters into these films is going to dilute the results. Hawkeye is a long time Avenger, but not a character I think they should be tossing into a 2 hour movie version at the moment.

To be honest it occurs to me that if these Marvel movies keep going, a time is going to come when they are probably going to want to do something with "The Avengers" where they aren't going to be able to get all the big name actors playing the current roles for whatever reason. That's when it's a good time to have characters like Hawkeye waiting to be introduced to use to fill out the roster.

Ironically this is incidently what happens in the comics, as the big characters are typically involved in their own storylines in their own comic books. Being Avengers is "something else" they tend to wind up doing, and provides a framework for them to get together for big company-wide events. The Avengers, like a lot of other super teams, fundementally acting as a "storage facility" for characters that are popular, but not popular enough to hold down their own books. They can be sold by having a bunch of them together, with usually one or two "name" characters like an Iron Man involved in a given storyline to help hold it down and give it weight. The membership of The Avengers rotating over the years as much due to character popularity, company-wide events, as anything else.

Should we see Hawkeye in a movie at some point? Sure, why not, he's cool. I just don't think we need him in this movie. Heck, if I had to guess the whole idea is probably due to how well "Green Arrow" generally went over in "Smallville".

Jeremy Renner is quite a good pick for Hawkeye now that I think about it. Hawkeye always did have that kind of douche-y touch I think Renner can pull off. Still, he better feature heavily in the Avengers movie or I'll be peeved. Yes, PEEVED.

If hawkeye is going to be in the avengers movie it would make alot more sense to introduce him in the thor movie, Which takes place in "current" continuity, than say the captain america movie which take place 70 years ago in continuity. At least i think the cap movie is going to be set during world war 2... and from the trailer it looks like agent coulton is going to be our S.H.E.I.L.D. friend during the Thor movie.

He can walk in and say, "Hang on... Sorry, I gotta go. I just got an Avengers Priority Emergency Call." I swear, he shows up in two Avengers books, says that line and then leaves.

Kind of off topic but wtf is up with the way Hawkeye his bow in the picture. I don't care how super you are suppose to be, if you try firing a bow like that two things are going to happen. 1 your arrow isn't likely to go far if it goes anywhere at all, and 2 your are going to get a huge ass welt on the back of your arm and hand. It is really bothersome to look at.

This movie looks really good from what I've seen so far of previews, though it probably shows how little I know of comics that this was the Hawkeye I thought of at first.

That's because something strange is happening with Hawkeye, the first time he did that it was after lifting a car off himself one handed. Hawkeye as you would know is normal, no super strength. And during a battle with the Hood's goons everyone with superpowers/technology was taken out, leaving only Mockingbird standing, odd that Hawkeye was was down with the rest of them.

The second avenger call out was probably a joke between the different writers.

Well #2 is solved by the fact his entire left arm is armoured.

I suspect that if Hawkeye does appear in either the Thor or Cap movie, it will be one of the cameos at the end... Like Nick Fury appearing at the end of Iron Man, or Thor's hammer (and that SHIELD agent) at the end of Iron Man 2. Basically just someone to show up and say 'Hey, you need to come with me.' or provide some sort of link to the Avengers.

Of course, in most continuities now, Hawkeye started off as a SHIELD agent, so he could show up in that role too, not in costume.
