Atlus Overclocks Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for 3DS

The Shin Megami Tensei franchise's first entry on the 3DS will be a re-release with extra content.

The latest issue of Famitsu features details on Atlus's first official move from DS to 3DS. The magazine reveals Devil Survivor Overclock, a 3DS remake of Nintendo DS strategy-RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor [http://www.amazon.com/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Survivor-Nintendo-DS/dp/B001QTW2HS].

Translations of the article on NeoGAF say that Devil Survivor Overclock is an upgraded version of Devil Survivor with additional content. Atlus is adding voice acting for the entire game, higher resolution graphics, and a brand new scenario that takes place on the game's 8th day. It'll also include more demons; up to over 150 from Devil Survivor's 130 or so.

The translation also apparently reveals that Devil Survivor Overclock will feature most of its action on the 3DS's lower screen, i.e. not the 3D one. According to Famitsu, the screen placement will be the same as it is in the DS version of Devil Survivor, so 3D might not be a big part of Overclock. The game is currently 90% complete.

It's great to see Atlus jumping right in with support of the 3DS, but I'm hoping this isn't the start of a widespread remake syndrome in 3DS development. When the future 3DS lineup [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101377-PilotWings-MGS-StarFox-Headline-3DS-Lineup] revealed that Atlus had a new Devil Survivor title in the works alongside other Shin Megami Tensei games, I think most of the title's fans were hoping for a sequel.

For anyone that's played the game already, an 8th day scenario seems tacked on as the game ends pretty well (in multiple ways), it already has tons of demons, and voice acting isn't something that's necessary in my book. If I hadn't already played Devil Survivor, sure, Overclock would be great, but here's hoping that Atlus has more than just remakes planned for its 3DS Etrian Odyssey [http://www.amazon.com/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Persona-Playstation-2/dp/B001C6GVI6/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp_T2] titles.

This game was hard enough as it was, I cant imagin the 3DS will make it any easier unless they add a easy mode.

Better than nothing, I guess.

Honestly, though? I'll probably end up buying the remake. Generally, Atlus doesn't skimp on that whole "extra content" bit, as evidenced by Persona 3 Portable. Plus, this game would be pretty cool with the addition of voices. (If they just use Yukari's voice from Persona 3 for Yuzu, though, that would show a good deal of laziness on their part).

But, an 8th day? I only ever got to Day 6, but from the rest of the game (even just the understanding of the storyline you get on the first day), it doesn't seem like there should even be a Day 8.

I wouldn't mine the same VA, but I was hoping for something new. And isn't Persona 1 on the list of Atlus games hitting the 3DS?

Their three entries for the 3DS lineup were unspecified titles in the Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and Devil Survivor franchises. So, they just confirmed that there would be a Persona game, though they didn't specify whether it was a remake or a new one entirely.

From how I read it, it seemed like a port or remake of the PSP persona game. Personally I want the Persona 2 remake on the psp to hit here in the states.

Son of a *****, I just ordered this game for the DS from Amazon, after demoing it on a ROM. Now I feel like an idiot.

Dammit, Atlus, why do you want my money so badly?

Although this isn't going to be a day one purchase for me. If they botch the voice acting up, then I'm not going to get it. I can live without listening to a valley girl accent for the entire game (thanks, Luminous Arc).

Might end up getting it. The only Shin Megami Tensei game I've played is Persona 3 Portable, which was pretty sweet so this looks like it might be worth a try. Guess I'll add this to my list of games to get. Now if only February 26th would come more quickly...

I just read about this last night. I have all but 2 of the endings down in DeSu, so buying a remake will depend on how much extra content there is.
And the quality of the voice work, not that Atlus ever skimps with it.

I had more to say , but my train got derailed....

I can see them doing what they did for 3 for 4 on the PSP, and i think i heard there redoing the original persona for the 3DS.

I'm a little dissapointed. I was hoping for a new game, not just a remake. Oh well, I'll probably end up buying it anyways, just not for $40.

I'm about the same, I've done four of the endings and loved the game to bits. While even more demons does sound cool since I got totally into buying and fusing them, the only reason I'd buy the new version would be if the 8th day content really is something significant. I won't be rebuying it just for the sake of slightly improved graphics and voice acting.

OT:

Well, I was only at Day 3 when I read this news.

So, I stopped playing. Atlus really does re-releases right. Never even feels like a rip-off.
