7 Days to Die Is DayZ Crossed With Minecraft

7 Days to Die aims to combine the best elements of FPS, Survival Horror, Tower Defense and Role Playing Games.

7 Days to Die is an ambitious new project on Kickstarter [http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/7daystodie/7-days-to-die-zombie-survival-game] that looks like the lovechild of zombie survival mod DayZ and build-anything sandbox Minecraft. It's an open world, voxel-based, sandbox game that is a unique mash up of First Person Shooter, Survival Horror, Tower Defense and Role Playing Games combining combat, crafting, looting, mining, exploration, and character growth.

The setting is one we've been to many times in the past: a post-apocalyptic wasteland ravaged by a horde of zombies. What's so interesting about 7 Days to Die is that the world is not a set map, but rather, made up of several randomly-generated biomes (EG: desert, forest, mountains) strung together a-la Minecraft or Terraria. Points of interest, which are big static areas such as factories and campsites, will be interspersed throughout the biomes and be fully explore-able.

Just like in Minecraft, the game will feature a full day/night cycle, in which you can scavenge for supplies and fortify your home base during the day while the zombies are in a slowed and weakened state, and try to hold out through the night when they get all blood-thirsty.

You'll be able to collect various items through loot drops, farming, hunting, and mining, and craft even more through the intuitive 5x5 crafting grid. The developer states that the grid is so easy to use, you won't even need a wiki.

The game will feature five "classes," Bruiser, Gun Nut, Gadget Man, Chemist, and Stealth Agent, which will all have distinct skill trees. You'll be able to play the game solo, or co-op with your friends.

Developer The Fun Pimps is asking for just $200,000 to fund the game, with various stretch goals promising new features if reached. Currently, it is sitting at $18,970. You can also support the game by voting for it on Steam Greenlight [http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=160808204].

Again with the zombies.

Just how creatively dead on the inside do you have to be before "Zombies, lol" starts to sound like an interesting idea?

Jesus.

I actually don't have a problem with it. Zombies have essentially become their own genre. I think it's very interesting to see new and fresh takes on the genre like this. Nobody goes "ugh, another fantasy RPG/science-fiction spaceship game, how creatively dead on the inside do you have to be?"

Minecraft mixed with Zombies that do more then just attack villagers, sounds quite interesting but I get the felling it wont be anything that special. The game just looks like things that we have seen before. I think I will keep an eye on it and see if it brings anything new to the table but at the moment, it looks dull.

I really quite like the idea of it being like a pretty looking version of minecraft, and I don't actually mind zombies that much as long as the game around it does something interesting. Survival certainly is interesting, but can they do it right? We'll see I guess...

"and the system even works to simulate chopping down trees"

Character chops down tree. Tree falls apart like dominoes. I laugh my ass off.

However I SERIOUSLY think this is an awesome idea! A voxel based minecraft would look better and give you more options. Not to mention it is basically just minecraft, not minecraft with DayZ, minecraft already has you scavenging for food and fending off the undead.

Gosh dang it, I told them not to watch that tape! They didn't listen! This is there own stupid fault!

OT: It looks okay, but I don't think I'll get it. I'm pretty much done with Zombies.

Finally....a REAL zombie survival game! You know where you can do more than gun down a million zombies with ease. This is the zombie game I've always imagined as a real zombie game... most games are more say zombie "themed" imo.

They may not word it like that, exactly, but I can't count the times I've heard "Bleh, [Fantasy Franchise]? Boring. It's probably just as generic as [Insert Another Fantasy Franchise for Reference, Often Tolkien Since His is the Most Famous]."

OT: You know... I'm all for people taking established mechanics and using them in new ways, but... this isn't really what I had in mind. We've already gone through the controversy of someone piggy-backing off of DayZ, and I've just seen too many indie games that 'take inspiration' from Minecraft. Mixing the two together isn't exactly my idea of a unique gaming experience... but that might just be me.

Actually, I do say "Ugh, another fantasy RPG." Frequently. They're up there with military shooters.

Oh. Zombies. Yaaaaay.

You know what would happen if zombies ACTUALLY happened? The headline the day after the outbreak would say "ZOMBIES RISE FROM GRAVE: LITERALLY EVERYONE WAS PREPARED."

Assuming the CDC didn't jump all over it first.

Seriously, in EVERY single zombie setting, what the HELL was the CDC doing when corpses started biting people? I can only conclude that all zombie games/books/movies/etc. take place in an alternate timeline where the Ur-Dipshit Caveman managed to pass on his dipshit genes enough to affect everyone in the world.

To veer more back towards the topic at hand...

The concept behind this game sounds boring, and what I've seen so far LOOKS boring.

Because

does more than just zombies and is more or less the same thing.

I CAN BUILD TO SPACE. You can't zombie to space.

SPACE.

I thought there were many fun ideas the game is throwing around which makes me nervous. I think they might be trying to take on more than they can handle and the result will be a very buggy game. I hope this game is very enjoyable to play

Sounds really cool. I wonder if you can turn the zombies off though. Don't get me wrong, with or without zombies are cool, but I think it would be fun to be able play some with zombies and then play just a survival game.

Either way they've got me interested and if I had any money I would donate.

The aesthetic freaks me out a bit, since it kind of resembles an environmental version of the Master Control Program's face or something.

Hell if everything else works as intended I'll turn a blind eye on those zomboles.

That being said however this looks very very ambitious and a great many things can go wrong when you juggle 20 things at once.

I am pretty sure the dead linger or project zomboid has that title.

Even with 2d, project zomboid is the closest you get to a real zombie game. Especially with power and water that shut off after a while.
Dead lingor looks like a MAJOR work in progress and isn't even a full game yet so you say it has the title of real zombie game already? Also looks like they could use more optimization than anything else... plus their mechanics remind me more of gmod zombie games than anything else.

and project zomboid is great imo, but it does have problems. Specifically I find the newest revisions just almost straight up bad. I prefer NOT using the same map over and over, combat mechanics went silly, best way to play that game is walk away from the zombies.....and keep walking away from them. Plus I don't think the top down is great for a zombie game that doesn't have any real benefit rather than style. I personally find PZ repetitive, and generally super easy and boring, since your more of supposed to just dodge the zombies and run each and every time. Plus the game is just gathering and hording which...I don't personally find difficult or fun and simply feels like a time waster in the long run.

Trust me I am no blind person, I have google and I have experienced most zombie games...and have been disappointed by just about all of them.

Somewhat looks like my cup of tea, but man that art style is kinda bleh. It's halfway between gritty realism and vanilla Minecraft.

"The crafting system features a spacious five-by-five grid and you won't need a wiki for it."

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH single best line in that video!

That said, it still looks pretty awesome, and I'm definitely going to have to check it out. My poor, poor wallet...

Structural integrity of buildings seems like an interesting limitation, and all the more fun once you start blowing buildings up.

Other than that, not interested.
