Nintendo Holds Limited-Time Pokemon Over Fans' Heads

To truly catch them all, you'll have to buy Pokemon Black & White within a certain time frame.

Trainers that get into Pokemon too far from the upcoming White [http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Black-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B004EW2PC6]'s release date apparently won't get to collect a full roster of the little beasts. A new promotion from Nintendo offers the 494th Pokemon only to players that purchase Black & White by mid-April 2011.

Any Black & White owner that connects to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection between March 6 and April 10 will receive a Liberty Pass. This Liberty Pass provides access to an exclusive island that can't be reached through normal gameplay. Within this island hides the mythical Victini.

Victini, a Victory Pokemon, is the first creature known to be a combination of both fire and psychic types. He's barely over a foot tall, but he'll make you think you're not on fire when you really are. Through his Victory Star special move, low accuracy abilities of other Pokemon in Black & White's double and triple battles will be able to land more easily.

I get the feeling that Victini will become a status symbol amongst Pokemon players. Most of the game's fans already had Black or White pre-ordered months ago, but you know there's at least one kid out there saving his pennies that will miss Victini by a hair. Tough luck, kid.

Not really. Pokemon are so meaningless at this point, what's with online trading and the ease of cheating. He's not gonna be a trophy by any means.

he will be given away again at some point. he has two exclusive moves victory star and v-generate. I dont remember which moves this one comes with but it doesnt have both of the exclusive moves so that means they will have to give it away again at some point in the future with the other move.

actually most event pokemon can not be traded through the gts. they can still be traded through wifi if you have the persons friend code, but thats a major pain in the ass most do not bother with.

Yeeeeeaaaaaaaah I can hack my way right to Liberty Island (refrence anyone?)if I wanted that fuzzy POS. I might be able to jury rig a map editor from an early version too. I will settle for my Groundon thank you.

The sole reason for the existence of gameshark.
Also, Nintendo just won the money making war.

I already caught them all back in red and blue. I have no need to catch them all again.

So not only do you have to go to Nintendo events for some pokemon and socialise but now buy this game within a certain time frame. This is really getting out of hand, the first two were the best because they were so simple, why are you guys trying to complicate the whole universe beyond anything I want to play

I think Nintendo miss the point, if you buy it within a certain time frame and you go to Nintendo events, you clearly have no friends to trade with so catching all of them is impossible

And then Australia probably ended up missing out by default.

I forget, what is the point of these events, again? My first instinct would be to send a message to players that you can't own everything, but that logic really only holds if you don't live in Japan.

Sorry, Pokemon, I complain only because I love you, but why do you do this to us?

There was always cheating, so it was always that easy to get them...

OT: Was planning on getting it anyway, so this is just another excuse to...

Wow, I never really followed this kind of news before, but after Funk's article about special events and now this? it's kinda... awful. I mean, it's one thing to get rewarded for participating in a rare event (Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, for instance?) but it's another thing altogether to just say "If you don't do as we demand, you have no chance at fully experiencing this!" It's just a ploy to get people to pre-order/buy early.

Plus, it makes me wonder... how close is it to micro-transaction only pokemon? Buy online today!

Really? Really, Nintendo? You couldn't think of any pokemon type to give him? That's like saying "Muk, the Muky pokemon" or "Pissorky, the Pissy pokemon"!

Odd-name choices aside, all I could think of while reading this was this. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_287/8457-Cant-Catch-em-All] Nintendo/Game Freak is just a cruel company, aren't they?

Can I access the wi-fi through a WPA connection?

I'm sick and tired of missing out on everything because I don't use WEP.

If nintendo truly makes this pokemon impossible to get, then people probably will just ignore its existence
