EA Misspells Name Of Madden NFL 09 Cover Athlete

Madden NFL 09 [http://www.easports.com] - a game which features Brett Favre on the cover.

In the game, Favre's name is spelled "Farve," matching the phonetic pronunciation but not the correct spelling. The misspelling is bad enough considering Favre's high profile as an NFL [http://www.nfl.com/] player, but especially egregious because he's the cover athlete on EA's latest addition to the Madden NFL franchise.

I'm not a huge football fan, and even less a Madden NFL fan, but I find it difficult to imagine how a error like this could get past EA quality control. Brett Favre is one of the most recognized and respected quarterbacks in NFL history, and the idea that such an obvious mistake could make its way through the entirety of the development process without being caught is mind-boggling. If this is how he runs his business, it's a wonder Peter Moore didn't end up sporting a tattoo saying "hello" in Spanish.

EA [http://www.ea.com] has not commented on the issue, and there is no word yet whether the company will issue an update to change the name to the correct spelling.

In some ways, yes, that is pretty bad; to me, eh. I don't think it's too big a deal.

Maybe they figure as long as it's Brett Farve on the cover, Brett Favre's career will be fine.

I still don't understand how Favre is said Farve; I've never found any answer as to what rule the phonetics of his name abide by.

Other than the above, Madden has sucked for a long long time; it just serves as an easy way to make some quick cash every year for the same game +/- improvements.

That should be "an error."
Hehe, I couldn't help but notice that also.

Boy is it getting hard to defend the Madden franchise. This is humiliating as a Packers fan.

It's certainly not something to bump a ship date for, but yeah, it's not like it's some tiny sport that nobody pays attention to, like soccer. Though I understand EA has had problems in that league, as well.

How hard could it be to check the names. Since they get a license to use them, i assume the NFL also give them the list of names + positions? Faults can slip in sure, but misspelling the name of the guy on the cover just shouldn't happen.

Just goes to show that EA actually doesn't put any effort into churning out the same game year after year.

In other news, gamers find out that EA made a new Madden game, shrug, get back to getting through MGS4 without any alerts.

...but since it's Madden, nobody cares.
Wrong, every casual gamer that's a huge sports nut will buy it, just like they do every year and with all the buzz about Favre going to the Jets, it's a big deal. Especially to cheeseheads. Epsecially to cheeseheads.

Wait, wait, wait. EA has qaulity control? Someone's not doing they're job.

maybe thats how they justified putting him on the cover of Madden 09 with last years jersey on. or maybe, this years Madden NFL game is just full of "Easter Eggs" for the for the knowledgeable sports people.

PS... I'm not one of these knowledgeable people. Other people that i work with know a lot more than me. they point this stuff out.

That gave me a good chuckle. Spelling the cover athletes name wrong isn't an Easter Egg, so much as it is a giant embarrassment.

The thing is, and maybe this isn't apparent to you "non-sports nuts", this isn't an easy mistake. EVERYONE knows how to spell Favre's name. Madden screwing this up isn't because they didn't know, it's because they didn't double-check the names. It's pure laziness.

I think in the future, EA will do this on purpose to 1% of each game and call it an Error Game like you get Error Cards when you buy Football, Baseball, or Basketball cards. If they EVER put Shaune Figgins on the Angel's, I will be pissed though. (It is spelled Chone, pronounced Sean.)
Chon as Sean, I'm sorry but thats just pushing it.
