Rumor: Epic Games Developing Kinect Sports: Gears of War

The rumored Gears of War Kinect game might not be a shooter.

A rumored [http://www.amazon.com/Gears-War-Triple-Pack-Xbox-360/dp/B004JSDQPU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1297622419&sr=8-5] since late 2010, with most people assuming if the game existed, it'd be a shooter. Maybe not, says a new rumor coming out of Official Xbox Magazine.

OXM writes in its "Crystal Ball" rumor section that Gears of War: Kinect could be a sports game. The magazine says: "What's the Gears of War Kinect game, you ask? The Ball suggests it could be a fatality-laden, COG-versus-Locust Thrashball spin-off in the vein of Mutant League Football [http://www.amazon.com/Mutant-League-Football-Sega-Genesis/dp/B000035XOA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1297622896&sr=1-1]."

Recently, a Gears of War 3 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107648-More-Gears-of-War-Kinect-Rumors-Leave-Cover] will not feature Kinect functionality.

Destructoid points out that OXM has printed many different rumors about Gears of War: Kinect, so this one may be pretty weak. Still, it's fun to think about. I'd definitely want to play a sports game where you chainsaw the other team's members instead of tackling them. However, in the world of Gears of War, would anyone really take a break from war to play a game?

I really don't care if it's a shooter, sports game, or even a Dance Central knock-off. I just want one of the trailers or ads or promo videos for the game to feature someone asking for a controller, followed by Hoffman shouting "ARE YOU KIDDING? YOU ARE THE CONTROLLER, SON!" at them.

Also if there is some launch event for the game, there should be a guy dressed up as Kim handing out the pre-order bonus codes to customers.

Does anyone else remember the Gears of War golf game that Epic made as a sort of tech demo for the engine they used for GOW? Maybe they are just doing the same but involving Kinect and someone thinks they are releasing it as a game?

It would be an interesting spin on all of the casual sports games that motion controllers are smothered with, I'm still not interesting in the Kinect however.

... That's probably true.

I can see the reasons for doing this, but I still think it's sad. Yes, slapping a big brand name on what is essentially upgraded shovelware will increase sales, but... the connection between GoW and sports is so flimsy that it's painful.
