Gabriel Knight Creator's New Game (Finally) Released in English

Jane Jensen, the woman who created Gabriel Knight, has a new adventure game hitting English-speaking markets.

It's been a while since<a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Jensen> Jane Jensen last released a videogame, seven years in fact. Recently, though, her latest game, Gray Matter, received a German release, but now it's coming to both the U.K. and North America.

An English version of Gray Matter was included with the multi-language German version, this is the first time that the game has appeared in English-language markets. Currently, it's <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Viva-Media-V00814-Gray-Matter/dp/B004JMXTNU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298668447&sr=8-1>available for PC in both Britain and North America, though U.K. gamers also have a <a href=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lace-Mamba-Global-Gray-Matter/dp/B002WTBR04/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1298668523&sr=8-2>360 version of the game available to them.

The game tells the story of a street magician named Samantha Everett who starts working for a neurobiologist as he begins working on experiments designed to test the brain's psychic abilities. <a href=http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,1251>Early reviews stated that the game lacked polish, but Jensen's storytelling still made for an engaging play experience.

Unless I missed it, how long was there between the German release and UK and US version?

I haven't heard anything of Gabrial Knight since the mid 90's

This looks pretty good, I might pick it up. It's been ages since I've played a decent adventure game. Well yesterday.

Not really that much to go on from this description. I assume the player gets to use these psychic abilities at some point?
Why spoil a good plot by giving it all away 'on the box'? :D

As long as the puzzles are closer to GK than GK III, this is almost a sure sell for me. Jane Jensens writing has always been great, and it's been ages since we've seen a proper full-sized adventure game.

Oh? This is a Jane Jensen game? I saw this at Walmart the other day and passed it off as shovelware. I should look into this.

The main character doesn't have psychic abilities. She's a magician, in the real world sense.

The game's been out in continental Europe for ages, and it is amazing. The characters(main ones) and the story are right up there with The Longest Journey, they are very well crafted as believable people that play off each other perfectly. And the puzzles are great. In a world where every other game has mini-games for puzzles, it was very refreshing to see an adventure with actual puzzles that span everything from mechanics to logic, to semantics.

What I can't figure out is why the various publishers haven't used digital distribution yet. The release version, even in Germany, had English text and voices. It would have really simplified things.

I was playing Sam & Max Season 3 just yesterday. And I was playing TellTale poker earlier today. I might buy this. Might not. Not sure.
