At Last, the Amazing Persona 4 Comic Dub Is Complete

Once upon a time, fans created an animated adaptation of a fan-created comic adaptation of Atlus' Persona 4. Now it's done, and it's still hilarious.

A quick recap: Once upon a time, an artist by the name of Peachifruit took it upon herself to retell the story of Persona 4 on Photobucket [http://hiimdaisy.livejournal.com/tag/persona]). Then, after the comic spread across the internet like proverbial wildfire, fans of Peachifruit's fan-comic turned it into a video, complete with "animation" and full voice-acting.

As of yesterday, the fan-comic's fan-dub is officially complete [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C6khcmGnss]. Now sadly, this doesn't mean it fully tells the game's plotline - Peachifruit discontinued her comic (or rather, put it on "indefinite hiatus") out of waning interest in the game - so it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. But all of the comic has now been translated to video, and it's all exceptionally well done.

What strikes me the most about this is how superb the dub work is. Persona 4 already set a very high mark in terms of localization and dubbing, and though the people working on this project are all ostensibly amateurs who are just doing this for free, it sounds great. The voice actors all match their roles perfectly, and their delivery is spot on.

Alas, there is no more than this. This is where the comic ends, and so too must the video end here. I'd have liked to see some of the later scenes in P4 turned into comic-and-then-video form, but we shouldn't be spoiled by what we did get.

The first part is up there on the right, and the last three are embedded here below:

(Also, the fourth part hints at some very major spoilers for the game, but come on! It came out in 2008, folks - there's a statute of limitations on these things.)

There is no statute of limitations for spoilers when it comes to things that aren't terribly popular...

As sad as that is, in Persona's case.

Plus, I never beat 4. Hard game is hard. Boring grind is boring. FUCKING OVER-RELIANCE ON SP AND SUPER EXPENSIVE HEALING FOX.

You have to do the Hermit S. Link to get him to lower the price and stop price gouging.

Nevertheless, if you are even remotely interested in Persona 4 or are even considering thinking about maybe playing it, don't watch these videos or read the comic. Since the story is heavily mystery-based and the whole theme is seeking the truth, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by seeing spoilers. So, instead...
GO PLAY PERSONA 4. IT IS AWESOME.

On topic, if you have played the game, then the Hiimdaisy comics are hilarious. I'd also recommend her Metal Gear Solid ones.

Haha. That's awesome. I haven't read the comic before, didn't even know it existed in fact, however the dub is surprisingly good. It highlighted a lot of the things that I thought was absolutely daft(Still love the game though).

I agree, i'm stuck on Kanji's shadow boss with no days left, no way to grind more, no more money, and being severely under levelled.

So yeah, I'm pretty much screwed.

Oh god. That fight. Heat Riser+Swift Strike=FUUUUUUUUUUUUU--
Good luck. I had that happen with a later boss.

I never understood this sort of ideas, you are who you say you are. There is no mystical force that makes you someone else. Feelings are meaningless biological signals that can be ignored at a whim. Your reason and logic is your mind, everything else is just trying to fool you from the optimal path.

Funny stuff.

That was amazing.

Oh yes, and Persona 4 was not terribly difficult if you just took the time to be prepared, kept a varied stock of Personas, and wasn't incompetent. No need for grind.

I got more annoyed about the inevitable hama/mudo/critical hit deaths rather than the bosses themselves funnily enough. Was in Kanji's dungeon and I lost about 5/6 floors worth of work thanks to Hama/Mudo killing my main character. Same thing happened when the mobs started to use Hama and Mudo in Persona 3 too, I remember losing nearly a blocks worth of progress. I think those 2 blocks were the only ones I had problems with hama and mudo though in both games, the later ones you're more prepared for them, that said I still think hama and mudo should be removed from the game.

I found for the bosses, you should be fine permitting you kill every enemy you come across while getting all the treasure on every floor, the theory works for both Persona 3 and 4. Course the random encounters do get monotonous. I think in terms of levels that means 10 levels every section.

Course if you've already left it too late, then problems do occur. In the original Persona 3 it wasn't a problem because you couldn't get tired on the final day, so you could just portal back to the bottom floor to get your hp/sp back up. Was removed in 4 and FES though. The only thing I can suggest is either try and get a Judgement card or Death card(I think it's those 2 which have a chance of restoring your sp?) or alternatively just load an earlier save.

Tell that to the dude who flamed me for spoiling the end of a game that came out in 1985. (One he'd played and finished, no less.)

I like the dub, but did they really have to have someone yell everything in the background? So many.. "wacky" sound effects..

I think I only died once or twice three times[footnote]Shadow Yukiko, one of the bonus bosses and Shadow Mitsuo, because I didn't realize I had to unfear my party.[/footnote] in P4, it's not a hard game at all, and I say that as someone who just generally sucks at games.

In retrospect, I may have grinded (ground?) a bit too much.

[sub]Though I did have half a heart attack whenever someone cast Hama spells. And that fox had some stupid requests.[/sub]

This reminded me of Tartarus Theater for Persona 3. Running jokes included Akihiko's beach costume (white t-shirt and trunks) actually being a school-issue female swimsuit.

Shame I haven't actually played Persona 4, but I loved Persona 3 to bits.

Are you sure the author of the comic is "Peachfruit"? Isn't it "hiimdaisy"? Or maybe thats just the name of the account. Either way... also, make sure to check out StrawberryCreme26's Youtube channel as she is the superfan who edited and helped voice the dubs.
