Shigeru Miyamoto (Kind of) Confirms Nintendo's New Hardware

Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto admits that Nintendo has been working on new hardware, but the father of Mario is keeping quiet on everything else.

Here's a question: What do you do if you have Nintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto with you in a closed-door session in London? What do you ask the man who could well be described as the father of modern gaming?

If you're a games journalist, you'd probably ask him about Project Cafe, according to Next-Gen.biz [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109268-New-Nintendo-Console-Confirmed-for-E3], but Miyamoto hasn't been in the industry for decades without learning how to deflect a question or two.

"Don't ask!" he said. "Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started. It's a matter of when we announce it."

When pressed on whether the right time to announce it would be this year's E3 as scheduled, Miyamoto politely declined: "Please wait. Be patient until we decide."

So there you go. Nintendo is definitely working on new hardware, and has been for some time, but anything else - including rumored Project Cafe specs and designs [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109445-Rumor-Concept-Designs-for-Nintendos-Project-Cafe-Surface] are complete rumor and speculation.

Also, Shigeru Miyamoto must roll superb Reflex saves when he plays D&D.

2nd level Rogue 8th level Wizard (The Man is Magical)

I don't blame him for deflecting. Gaming media can be harsh. I am sure they will have a lot of testing and non disclosure interviews before anything is confirmed.

What are you talking about? It's been a whole week since this new console was reported by Game Informer. Hell, I read about it on this very website! He's probably got a list of dodges and has just been waiting for an excuse to use them!
Also this is definitively more about mental agility than menial agility. So I'd say that his wits attribute is quite high. Or if you'd want to keep it to D&D terms a high bluff skill. Not sure what it would be in GURPS but it'll be linked to his IQ score (probably something like a fast-talk skill).

GURPS's character creation is quite ridiculous.

this is what I interpreted the statement as:

"Uh, we're ALWAYS working on new hardware. DIPSHITS."

People seem to be getting stir-crazy from the longer-than-normal console cycle we're dealing with right now

QFT (does anyone actually say this any more? I don't frequent internet forums as often as I used to...)

Everyone is always working on a new console. This is nothing.

The console cycle is only really longer for sony and microsoft, Nintendo are actually about on track, give or take a year.

It's nice to see someone deny with personality. I've been getting tired of the standard, stone-faced "no comment" that's so popular these days.

If you think those are good, I think it's more will saves than reflex saves.
