Raccoon Suit Confirmed for Super Mario 3DS

This almost certainly means that the Raccoon Suit, i.e. a flying version of Mario, will return. It could imply an appearance of the Tanooki Suit as well, the tougher to find counterpart that also allowed Mario to turn himself into an invincible statue. Whether or not it means we'll see other classic powerups, such as the Hammer Bros. Suit and the Goomba's Shoe, is unsure, but it'd be nice.

We can infer from the return of this powerup that Super Mario 3DS may play out differently from previous 3D Mario titles if a new element of flying is involved (edit: in a manner different than that of Super Mario 64's Flying Cap). Only Nintendo's E3 2011 demo will tell the tale.

Nah. You know what would make platforming elements easier, Miyamoto? Giving us 100% control over the camera so we can find a suitable angle. I'd been working on Super Mario Galaxy 2's green stars all week, and you people should be jailed for having such a criminally bad camera.

Nothing Nintendo has done in the last 20 years can possibly top the idea and stapling a tail onto the backside of Mario and telling him to flap it up and down after he jumps off a cliff.

Eh. It works better than the camera systems in most any other 3rd person game.

The green stars are a pain, but at least most of the main game can be played without the camera being an issue.
Unlike so many 3rd person games where even with manual control it's almost impossible to get a decent angle.

The green stars do however require some insane jumps, and frequent leaps of faith, I'll grant you that. (And indeed, some of them make it impossible to judge the right trajectory. But changing the camera angle would not help much; It's surprising how difficult things become when you can't see a shadow.)
I honestly don't know how I got all of the green stars.
Some of them required making leaps that are only vaguely plausible to pull off...

I don't get the hate about old power ups coming back. "New" isn't always "better." I personally like the idea of 3D versions of the original power ups.

While Nintendo has always lacked originality, they certainly haven't lacked innovation.
