Can we please hire those modders to work on future games? Like, people who're able to import Superman, Spiderman, the Mechs- ect. and have them perform like the real deal have serious potential.

It's like those super talented modders behind Skyrim whom can fix almost every bug, import the best graphics along with creating new creatures / abilities without the engine's help. Those people should be recognized and picked up for hire.
Iirc the guy who made the Falskaar quest-mod for Skyrim got hired by Bungie. But yea, you're right, it's a massive pool of talent that could easily inject more love in the industry.

No Carmaggedon mod? For shame! I want to experience the chaos of the frictionless automobile apocalypse in NEXT GEN GRAPHCIS!

The first thing on the realistic driving mod's list of changes would be to have that god-awful anti-roll bias in the engine that rights your car mid-air and allows you to recover from impossible angles removed. God, that annoys me so much, I hate it in every game that it is in. I want to crash and roll spectacularly like in Just Cause 2, a game nearly half a decade in age and much more fun to drive in ATM.

So... we discuss future, possible, not all that ambitious mods for GTA V...
And mods like Lost Alpha, R&D, Black Mesa and many others get almost no mention here...

:(
Strange really.

Possibly because GTA V is a brand-new game that people are modding for, and the Half-Life 2 mods you mention haven't been updated in a long time? Heck, R&D hasn't been updated since 2009 or so. Black Mesa hasn't updated in nearly 18 months. Lost Alpha is a year old next week.

Not to say that those mods aren't cool, but this gallery was more about new mods that could be made, are being made, or that we think should be made. Older mods will probably have their day come up as well.

I've talked to a lot of game developers over the years, and they're nearly unanimous in their admiration for modders. I even had one guy tell me that they would look very favorably on a person who had released a mod, because it showed they could start and finish a project, and that they could make something that actually works.

Only one of the mentioned ones is a Half Life mod. The other is a still updated STALKER title that is bigger then most AAA projects with multi-million dollar teams... so it deserves respect. A lot of it.

It is not about reviewing or talking about THOSE exact mods, I used it as a shorthand to talk about OTHER mods, of HIGH ambition like them. Escapist covers many things, but not mods. Which is sad IMHO. And there are many mods out there that are worthy of their own reviews or at least some press.

These mods you propose look cool. And I want them to happen. But... they dont hold a CANDLE to the "old" mods I mentioned.
R&D and Black Mesa are both Half-Life mods. I should have mentioned that Lost Alpha was a STALKER mod. That said, all of them deserve respect. The very fact that they released something is amazing, and the support these three mods in particular have offered is a testament to how cool they are.

I wish that someone would make a mod like these in a game like GTA 5. I'd like to see someone build out that time travel mod I mentioned into something that's fully realized, where you could explore the various time periods.

Unfortunately, no one seems to be doing that.

I had no idea those mods even existed for GTA IV. That list reads like the saints row playbook: giant robots, super powers, zombies, even the time travel bit from one of game's epilogues. I really like the idea of playing as one of the cops, though.

I hope gta v gets some similar mods, but given some of the issues people have been having with it I doubt we'll get anything soon.

I just want The Escapist and other sites to give the coverage some of these mods deserve :(

That is all I want. People around the net have the stupid opinion that mods = hacks / pirating... and that annoys me greatly.
It's a very different culture around modding these days. It used to be that we all waited for the mods as much as we did the games, and in some cases, the mods were BIGGER than the games. Desert Combat is a great example of that.

Nowadays people just don't get into it as much. I think part of that is that there's more of a disposable game culture now, but more importantly, we went through a few years where almost no games had mod tools, and now people don't know what they're missing.

Modding is not the same as game development, but consider how fan-fiction can be better than cannon stories, too.

There are many reasons for projects to fail to meet expectations, and most of it boils down to time, money and decision-making. Modders have a completely working piece of software and the independence to create a mod. Imagine if they had development teams and publishers with creative control telling them how and when to get it done. Welcome to the business world of wasted time, talent and resources.
