If a show is going to be full of action, it's opening song should demonstrate that, if the show will be suspenseful, it should show that, and so on. Here's a list of 8 of the best openings for anime. Inb4 other commenters posting THEIR best anime opennings (it's subjective to say which are the best)!

All I will say is that I only agreed with half of the opennings that were mentions. I got too many favourites opennings to start copying and pasting out.

I was kinda surprised to not see Evangelion's theme in there - or am I dating myself too much.

Elfen Lied had a damn good theme, too.

I can live with all the choices. I personally love "Period" by Chemistry, the second to last Brotherhood opening. Paper Moon was amazing for the ass beating Mifune gives Black Star.

Few other choices would have been:

Through the Night (Outlaw Star)
Jap (Sengoku Basara)
Liar Mask (Akame ga Kill OP 2)

and the best Opening in Anime history in my humble opinion:

Ambiguous (Kill la Kill)

Very subjective list. Gonna have to go to YouTube now. I'll throw my hat in with the original One Piece opening "we Are" as I think it is as iconic as "Cruel Angels Thesis" or "Ready Steady Go".

I would have also placed Samurai Champloo's opening on this list because it showcased each of the three main character's personalities through visuals alone...

Other than that, all of 2003's FullMetal Alchemist openings would have also suffice in this list as well...

I was hoping for some JAM Project songs, as they're a personal favourite. I'm disappointed, but I understand their exclusion. Still, though..... SOUL TAKEEEEEEEER!!!!!

Pretty good list, I agreed with all the ones chosen which I knew of already (Hacking to the Gate, Tank, Sorairo Days, All of FMA). I would've picked Papermoon over Resonance any day though. I know that lots of people would take a bullet for Resonance, and it is good but Papermoon is the stuff of legends!

No One Punch Man? I an shocked. SHOCKED, I SAY. The theme is pure hype, which could only match the sheer bombastic action that's onscreen in the more intense fights. You know, the ones that Saitama aren't in?


Regardless, this anime song is one of my favorites. I've got a bunch more, but this one was the first to pop into my head.

I am suprised that they didnt add Log Horizon.
Other than that I'd probably add A Certain Magical Index to that list because the beat is infectious

Death Parade has an awesome opening. Just look at this. Look at this. It's fucking bonkers. Great fun.

Probably the only Opening I never skip past.

Aside from that I agree with most of this list.

Good list, though I would have added Gurren No Yamiya from Attack on Titan and the first English Pokemon theme (plus the kickass revamped version for Pokemon X and Y) on there as well.

Ok, I like all the animes on there and I understand all the choices.... except steins gate. Its a good anime but the opening is lack luster. It makes the exclusion of cruel angel thesis all the more baffling.

blech, Just Communication is limp; if there's one song I remember from that series it's Rhythm Emotion. Also, Stray by Yoko Kanno for Wolf's Rain and either opening for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Inner Universe and Rise respectively by the late Origa) are amazing.

I absolutely adore this and the second season's OPs. They're just...so soothing and set the tone for the series damn near perfectly. D:

And not one of Bleach's OPs either?

Anime openings usually do the same thing with the fast editing while showing the characters jumping around shooting something, or do the moody or cool guy poses, so they start to blend in when you've seen enough.

The only few that really stick out to me is the famous Pokemon theme, and I think the 2nd opening to Hunter X Hunter, which sets the dark tone perfectly and doesn't have the characters jumping around like they just discovered crack. It has a couple of those poses though.


Surprised you didn't mention the original Attack On Titan theme.
