Awwwmaaagawwwd the redeemer! I just got a thousand flashbacks of suicide by that weapon's blast radius. Good times in that game.
Also, there is a certain warm fuzzy feeling generated by launching a radiator from the gravity gun at a combine and his buddy. Refridgerators too. Perhaps that is a household appliance fetish that needs professional analysis.

Mmmmm...nyeh. I would've said the crowbar, but the gravity gun was clearly more unique and interesting in retrospect. I would've suggested the cerebral bore from Turok 2: Seeds of Evil as well, though; that thing is nuts. Good that you didn't go straight for the chainsaw, since there're many games that tote one, but few I know of that use one as a bayonet.

I'm actually kind of surprised this didn't make the cut.

.

I can't think of a weapon in video games that has ruined near as many friendships as that sonofabitch. I can also guarantee just about everyone who has played a MarioKart since the N64 entry has a story about this thing, too.

You had me... you had me right up until that last image.
A chainsaw assault rifle is just an impractical assault rifle, and while the first few kills were cathartic It just adds salt to the wound that games never get weapon mounted blades right. (I teach several classes, one of which is bayonet)

I would have agreed with the blue shell or maybe the quake rail gun, the pixel perfect killing machine.

Marcus Fenix's chainsaw gun got a mention, but the Buster Sword didn't?

I'mma let you finish, but I'm calling shenanigans here.

Iconic has two definitions. The first is "widely recognized". The second is "representative or reflective of something". So, to do a list of "iconic" things, you need to either explain why each thing is the best example or representation of its kind, or rank things in order of most widely recognized. I don't think you sufficiently explained your reasoning as to why any of these weapons are the best representations of videogame weapons, or why they're the most reflective of the spirit of videogame weapons.

Is disappointed

Other than that, the lack of arm cannons disappoints me even more for some reason...

I thought the hook shot stood out more than the master sword. That was the most original weapon to come out of Zelda for me. Is there any other game with a hook shot I don't know of?

Would have never heard of the chainsaw gun or blades of chaos if I didn't play those games. The hidden blade I didn't even think of, and completely forgot about after the first game.

Edit: Lacks arm-cannons
