Uh, what's with all the nods to Mark Wahlberg?
Because, apparently, only Mark Wahlberg can make a video game movie worth watching in theaters!

OT: Are you sure this isn't the "8 video game movies that would only work with Mark Wahlberg in it" list? Otherwise, this article made me laugh a little inside... especially the Zelda, Half-Life, and Portal movie ideas...

But they are already video games, why in the world would they want to be (or would we want them to be) movies? I don't understand how that would improve them in any way, since I prefer by far video games to movies for my activity time.

I've always felt that Pixar could make a pretty stellar movie out of the Banjo-Kazooie franchise. Likable, lighthearted characters, an engaging and fun storyline, and a moral about the value of friendship to tie things together.

I even have an actor idea for Banjo. What do you think, Schuyler?

The list was hilarious. I don't know why so many people are fretting about it. It's clearly a jab at videogame movie adaptations. Starring Mark Wahlberg as Mark Wahlberg in the Mark Wahlberg role.

But wait, the only movie based on a video game that Mark Wahlberg is in was Max Payne, and from what I remember, that movie tanked by the box office and got panned at everyone; I mean, Wahlberg was even nominated for a Golden Raspberry for Worst Actor. Unless of course, this article is an ironic reference to that.

Aside from the Wahlberg joke, some of those would make terrible movies. Bioshock's whole plot schtick with player agency is absolutely lost in an entirely passive medium. Portal draws its strength from being cerebral and slow paced, which translates to drowsy movies. Grand Theft Auto as a movie would do nothing that hasn't been done already to death in heist, fast and furious and gang movies.

I think he's trying to say.... Michael Cera need to make video game movies.
Michael Cera is the real Mark Wahlberg of video game movies in this scenario...

Then again, the more I think about Cera as Link, the more I actually want to see that happen somehow...

"8 Reasons Videogames could make great movies", and eight games that could be made into movies are presented, while reasons or justifications appear to have absconded. I mean, I love Mark Wahlberg as much as I've loved any of Hollywood's rarely-glimpsed generically handsome middle-aged white dudes (can never have enough of those, amirite?), but I'd love to see some reasons to turn agency-or-exploration-driven pieces into a two hour affair with a fixed cam. Maybe if Marky Mark pulled the old one-man-cast thing, and acted opposite himself wearing different outfits? I mean, that would definitely improve Portal, ya know?
