Jesus I'm stressed just by reading through these.
I know. It makes me want to kick a developer or two square in the egg roll.

See, achievements that require skill, like the "Nothing Special" or the Megaman ones, okay, I understand. I will never get that, but I can see it being down, and still be challenging and fun.

Those other ones? Those ones that are just time sinks, or require you to play for an inhuman amount of time without a break? Those are stupid. They're also probably not healthy. Who in the right mind wants to play a game for 14 hours straight? There's challenging, and then there's just cruel. Those types are cruel.

I would have added my two personal shining accomplishments to this list:

Little Rocket Man-The Orange Box. If you've done this, you know the pain. If you haven't, there's just no adequate way of explaining the kind of hell you go through for this.

Mile High Club-Call of Duty 4. Imagine playing the same 45 second sequence over and over, attempting to achieve pixel-perfect execution and timing. I played this for a solid 3 hours the night I finally unlocked it. It really came down to which way I turned at the top of the staircase in the back. After deciding to turn to the right up top, I had it beat within 20 minutes.

Dear lord, some of these have to be the stupidest things I've ever read. Just completely moronic things meant to test peoples dedication obsession of a game.

The Rock Band one reminded me of the most sadistic achievement ever. In Rock Band 3 you got an achievement for 3 gamerscore for creating your band. Another achievement gave two for connecting your Xbox Live account to Rockband network. They new OCD people would be all over that just to make that last digit a 5 or 0 again.

*actually has Steel Bladder achievement* And it was good fun too. Exhausting, but fun. It's not something I would ever do again, but I did manage to one shot the whole thing.

I would actually say Halo 2's (MCC) Back for More (Complete the Legendary All Skulls On campaign playlist) would be one of the most difficult by far. Halo 2 on Legendary was always such a massive pain of all the Halo's on Legendary. And Legendary is bad enough too with its stupid artificial difficulty. I have no idea why people like it so much. And then add the effing Skulls to that? Fun, fun, fun!

This is also coming from a Halo fanboy too.

Wasn't there also an achievement in Stanley's Parable that was straight up impossible ?
Nah, that achievement was definitely possible and even quite easy to get ? if you know how. ;)

I managed to do seriously 3.0 over about 10 months, which honestly (a) required a lot of 'idle boosting' (setting the game to play itself while I did other stuff) and (b) burned me out on games and achievements for quite some time afterwards.

A special note for the dead rising achievement - this was in a game that came out when the RROD was a serious problem, and long before any real solution was made for it - so you'd need your xbox on solid for 14 hours, at a time where it had a serious and potentially fatal technical problem caused by heat...

That Rockband one sounds like fun...

I would totally do that...
If they ever learnt the meaning of the words "Competitive pricing" for the Australian market.

Screw EP2 achievements, that and Get Some Grub really dropped the ball compared to the fun ones HL2 and EP1 had.

Man, some of these made me grimace just through reading.

I think honourable mentions to Halo 3 vidmaster: annual are well deserved. Absolute pain in the ass to get especially if your friends aren't competent, rush on ahead or my personal favourite have trick that, "no, no, this really works and will make this so much easier" and results in numerous pointless restarts that when said trick finally works they realise they have left everyone else behind and triggered and massive flood swarm. Also Sergeant Johnson seemed to be targeting us in that level.

completely agree. I got screwed by the grub one, and... I think it was Ep. 2, but I got screwed by the one where you cross the sand without ever touching it. I DID that, and it didn't pop. I was pissed. And I think I missed 1 grub somewhere and said "nope! not again!"

Any trochievement that ends up relying on luck/RNG, for the most part, to get all need to go fuck themselves!

Lollipop Chainsaw... The No Fear Of Heights Trocheivement...

So far, that situation, alone, has been THE pinnacle of all my rage quits... The amount of luck you would need to obtain that particular trophy was so BS that it has been over a year since I have touched that particular game...

And I was having so much fun back then... and, at the time, I was one trophy away from platinuming it...

Almost a complete waste of time at this point...
Granted, I did finally get that trochievement <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.874988.21996364>not too long ago, but in the mortal words of Larry Wilmore:
"That's right, ************! I haven't forgotten about you!"

I never got any of the Gears "Seriously" achievements.
The most I ever got was enough progress to make them stop looking like insignificant tick-marks and actually look like 1% but still not even close.
