Trailer: Dark Souls Smashing Boulders Through Skulls in October

The latest Dark Souls trailer reveals its release date, along with some of the many, many violent ways to die.

From Software's Demon's Souls [http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Souls-Playstation-3/dp/B004NRN5EO/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1305077347&sr=1-1], and the game now has a release date of October 2011. Much like Demon's Souls (and likely Dark Souls) which raised players spirits before utterly crushing them beneath a spiked boot of poisoned eternal death and fire, the happiness of knowing that the game will be out in five months is countered by this trailer that shows off how brutal it'll be.

[video=3194]

It starts off with the light of a campfire, one of Dark Souls' new gameplay mechanics [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107575-Campfires-Brighten-Dark-Souls-Cold-Morbid-World] designed as a respawn and health-replenishment point. Then it shows why the nearby knight needs the campfire and should never have left it.

He ends up getting burned, mauled with a bladed pendulum, shot twice in the back and once in the front with crossbow bolts, covered in a ball of ooze, attacked by a mutated rat, rammed off a ledge by a boulder, and thrown around like a rag doll by a massive knight. The trailer also shows off a few of the game's new bosses, including an overweight, giant hammer-wielding freak and his nimble, armored spearman partner. Tag-team bosses? That's just wrong.

As if else [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107501-Take-a-Walk-Through-the-Hellish-World-of-Dark-Souls] we've seen of Dark Souls didn't already convince us the game was going to be messed up, this trailer confirms it a little bit more. And I can't wait, because Demon's Souls was a hell of a lot of fun for a super-challenging game. I also want to find out why the dragon shown at the beginning sleeps like that. He's going to have a major crick in his neck in the morning.

As the trailer confirms, Dark Souls will be released in October 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

So it'll be out in time for Halloween? Will there be a pure black world tendency event in this game as well?

I like how Japan is doing Dark Fantasy better than most Western developers.
Not Japan. Only FROM. Another game I have to get. This year is going to be expensive...and time-consuming. I wonder if I can take a leave-of-absence to play games...

I heard they removed the world tendencies and thank freakin' god for that. I remember managing world tendencies in Demon's Souls was a huge pain in the ass so I hope they replace it with something more manageable.

Yeah, grinding tendency sucked. Still, worldwide events are kind of fun.

For a while, anyway.

Well, from their library I can see that it is a pretty Japanese company, going with ninjas, anime style cover art, and giant mechs. All seem pretty Japanese to me, obvious exception being the King's Field series.

Sweeet, even though fall is jammed with releases, I can't wait. Though, I do have mixed feelings about having my ass shoved down my throat again.

Seeing as how I did not like Demon's Souls, I probably won't get this, though I may try it at a friend's purely for the lulz.

As long as we don't go back to a place like the plague caverns we're good. From Software, please, no never ever plague caverns again.

tag team boss is just wrong? how about Man Eater then in Demon's Souls? Don't you think that it's just too cruel to suddenly make another boss popping out of nowhere when we think that we almost defeat the first one? and then those narrow alleys? I am not gonna be surprised anymore... or will I?
