Help Name Games for Windows Live

Microsoft is building a desktop client that will offer downloads, demos and other goodies and is looking to its users to name it.

Community Manager Chris Paladino posted on the Micrsoft blog Gamerscore [http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2008/09/09/560844.aspx] an invitation for anyone (specifically the three Games for Windows Live users) to suggest a name for the software and store soon to be released for free with Games for Windows Live.

Paladino explained, "When we announced that Games for Windows Live was completely free, we also stated we'd be bringing a Marketplace with demos, trailers, and downloadable content to your Windows desktop through a stand-alone client piece of software. This software will start with new downloadable content, but expand and improve to provide a greater level of interactivity as time goes on."

Microsoft's sample ideas are:
[ul]
[li]"Games for Windows Live Dashboard"[/li]
[li]"Games for Windows Live Portal"[/li]
[li]"Games for Windows Live Marketplace"[/li]
[li]"Games for Windows Live Guide"[/li]
[li]"Games for Windows Live Client"[/li]
[li]Just "Games for Windows Live"[/li]
[/ul]

Anyone is welcome to comment with a custom suggestion, but don't do it for a prize, as Microsoft just wants ideas without compensation. "Of course, we don't guarantee that we'll agree with, like, or use any of the names you choose or provide," noted Paladino. "And if you suggest something we love and end up using, no, we won't give you any credit. But we figured it couldn't hurt to ask."

"Games for Windows Live Dashboard"
"Games for Windows Live Portal"
"Games for Windows Live Marketplace"
"Games for Windows Live Guide"
"Games for Windows Live Client"

Does anyone else see the pattern?

It's all too long, imo.

Steam, Impulse etc easy one word names. Way more marketable and thus, better. So if you;re intend to keep the LIVE in there, make it Live Marketplace/Client/Portal etc.

*edit, Live Up would be nice, as a play on Life Up / 1up.

Yeah even Direct2Drive's abbreviation is easy, but with this, its GFWLD. (I guess pronounced "Guffawld"... "I just got 3 great deals on GUFFAWLP")

I really hope they don't use "microsoft points" and just let me use my debit card.

Leave out the l and you end up with Guffawed (since with it, you can't pronounce it), past tense Guffaw, which is used in comics for spitting..

So in other words, MS is taking suggestions about the name for their new service. They may not choose to even use ones that we submit. If they did in fact use the one you send in, they won't give you any credit. You'll just be that asshole nobody believes when he says, "I came up with that name!"

Is that about right?

Games for Windows Live Marketplace seems to make the most sense considering they said Marketplace

Well then I guess it's gonna be Guffawlm

We gotta find a short name for it. Like, GFW, or WL (oh wait, they already have that...) or just "Live", or another variation of the word.

Windows Live works, and is in keeping with the existing Xbox Live, or do they already have something called Windows Live?

EDIT: Yes they do. Damn.

They're renaming Internet Explorer?
