Live-Action Gears of War Video is Non-Violently Impressive

This live-action Gears of War 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Gears-War-3-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0H79C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307034229&sr=8-1] video is an impressive achievement and remarkably true to the game, except for the part where nobody gets shot, blown up or chainsawed into goo.

I've never played Gears of War but from the outside looking in I have to say that for a game that's ostensibly about huge dudes killing the crap out of slavering, heavily-armed monsters, there sure does seem to be a lot of angst, uncomfortable silences and awkwardly ponderous music. It's a spirit that holds true in this new live-action video, which is remarkably well-produced but also disappointingly light on the slaughter.

The video was created by YouTube [http://www.youtube.com/user/TryForceProductions].

Try Force has its sights set higher for its next project, however, a live-action Kickstarter [http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-Pc/dp/B004HYIAPM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1307034639&sr=8-3]. "With your help as a fan of videogames, movies, or both, we can put together an amazing piece of work," the Kickstarter page says. "With the success of this trailer, we hope gaming companies will take control of their future film adaptations and make them for a broad audience without leaving the fans dissatisfied when the credits roll."

For what it is, the Gears trailer is very well done. It's not great - fair or not, I expect more shooting in videos based on shooters - but it feels right and, more importantly, demonstrates genuine passion for the medium and boundless potential for bigger and better things in the future.

Kinda agree. Very good trailer, but didn't feel enough like Gears of War for me. I think that "Marcus" and "Anya" could have been replaced with pretty much any two soldier-types and it could have been any other game. Potential is there though.

Looks pretty cool. But to be fair with the no shooting thing, not all of us can be as awesome as freddiew with those kind of things. Plus it wouldn't be as fitting with the tone it's setting.

There's no such thing as girls in the Gears of War Universe.

OT: Is it just me or did it looke like they ran really awkwardly? Either way it's a big meh for me.

While this may be all nice and that.....

I still cannot see the point in live action trailers for games, they always paint a picture of what isnt in the game, wind up spawning endless convos about "the movie" tie in or they often make the game seem a lot more interesting or exciting than it ever will be.

Examples:- Medal of Honor, Halo ODST, Halo 3. Painted a picture, mostly didnt deliver or make any sense at all in the end.

I thought this was incredibly nice. If only more video game commercials were like this, I wouldn't feel ashamed every time they came on the TV and force myself to change the channel.
It's a nice change from the usual format of angsty generic rock music blaring over stiched together clips of every explosion in the game with arbitrary number score review text flying across the screen.

They ran like they do in the game, so yes.

This is brilliant. Also is the blonde a man or a woman only ever saw he back. Seems live action trailers are making headway.

As a huge Gears fan, I have to say they captured the mood perfectly. The deepest parts of the games are when there is downtime. You get to see the devastated environment, which very much looks like it could be any neighborhood. Also, the music selection was fantastic. Some of the best Halo live action clips were the ones where they weren't necessarily shooting. Though, the actors did not fit their parts very well. Gears consume massive amounts of calories because they are constantly running. Any old gears would have been appropriate, but someone in far better physical shape would have been necessary. But, well done. The editing was fantastic, and the camera work as well.

If was quite well done. Parts of it really fit in with the original GoW 1 trailer. Really cool music.

They also did a great job on Fenix's running style........or lack thereof.

not to be offensive but why it some fat chick Anya? she is a lot smaller than the girl in the video, but marcus looked real enough for a game character.

They are far to clean to be COG soldiers not a speck of dirt on either of them.

It's not bad at all, but next time they really need to grime up their actors. Nobody in the Gears of War universe showers.
Goddamit ninja'd I thought I was the only one anal enough to notice that.
