Blade Gets His Anime Vampire-Slaying Action On

Marvel and Madhouse have finally released a teaser for the Blade anime for fans to sink their teeth into.

Marvel's made a rather aggressive move into the anime market over the past year, generating a lot of buzz on the Web as various trailers have been released. <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107882-Madhouse-Releases-First-Look-at-X-Men-Anime>The X-Men teaser certainly looked promising, and Madhouse has been steadily unveiling other action-friendly trailers for projects like <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4yrOLQniCk>Iron Man and <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9fqA-GZNHQ&feature=related>Wolverine. Finally, the last of Madhouse and Marvel's ventures is seeing the light of day: The teaser for the Blade anime has finally surfaced and it looks suitably bloody.

The trailer is pretty short, though it looks like the art direction is mirroring the style of recent comics instead of the Wesley Snipes films. It's hard to tell what the anime will be about (other than Blade beating the bloody snot out of a bunch of vampires, but Comics Alliance has some concept art showing off Blade, <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deacon_Frost>Deacon Frost, and a couple of other supporting characters.

Blade has been <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Blade-Collection-4-Film-Favorites/dp/B002GSXKNI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307413553&sr=8-1>a popular character for Marvel when it comes to media adaptation. There were two popular movies (both the first and second are still some of my favorite vampire flicks) and one reviled film (seriously, don't bother), followed by a TV series that was met with deafening shrugs of indifference and canceled after twelve episodes. Honestly, that's a shame, because Blade has always been one of those characters that's been great to read/watch when Marvel lets someone competent handle the IP.

No official release date for North America (or even an English dub) of the film has been announced. That said, the movie is due out in Japan come July 1st.

If they don't retcon the vampires into the shitty nonsense that Japan uses to represent the ones that aren't in Hellsing, it could be good.

We'll see, I guess.

I hope I'm not the only one screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" to this, the Blade movies were awesome.

And they don't have Twilight Vampires.

If he isn't serving time for tax evasion then he isn't a Blade I'm interested in ;)

I'm unfamiliar with the comics, but in terms of movies I think they peaked when Ron Perlman and Danny John-Jules were teamed up together - how can you beat that?

Overwhelming Meh.

Disney... trying to forcibly push its way into Japan. Two negative things that I am hoping with negate and obliterate each other when they come in contact.

I hate when they do this. It never turns out good.
I don't know, Highlander did it good with Search for Revenge
I did not like it. maybe I am just too picky.
I understand what you mean, if you're talking about the Highlander anime

it was okay, not the finest of them or even that great of an anime, but considering what Highlander has been before that one, it's a godsend for us fans XD

I want me some Wesley Snipes. Bald blade is cool and all, but kind of a let down.

They need to make Blade a bit darker. I don't want a guy who looks like he was 'dipped in tea' hunting vampires. I want a Baaaaaaad mutha**cka cutting down some piece a' sh** vampire's aaaass!!!! XD

So far the Iron Man anime was mostly great with a few duff episodes that brought the overall quality down a bit but worth watching. The Wolverine anime was okay but I couldn't get past the character design. The X-Men anime might be the best adaptation since the 90,s cartoo. It really got almost everything right. The character design, characters and plot are pretty spot on so I highly recommend that one.

I can't tell much from that trailer but kinda getting a Blood the Last Vampire feel from it.

I enjoy the X-Men anime, and what little I have watched of the Wolverine Anime was decent, so colour me skeptical but interested.
