E3: Nintendo Unveils New Mario Kart, Luigi's Mansion, and More for 3DS

Forget about the disappointing launch line up, Nintendo has lots of things in store for the 3DS this year.

As part of its E3 presentation, Nintendo has unveiled a second wave of 3DS titles, as well as giving some news details about games we already know are coming. The list of new titles includes a sequel to Luigi's Mansion and a new Mario adventure.

The 3DS version of Mario Kart has a number of new features not seen before in the series. Besides the usual kart based action, players will be able to fly around the tracks using a pop-up glider wing and go underwater with a pop-out propeller. Players will also be able to customize their carts with new parts. Mario Kart 3DS is scheduled to come out in time for the holidays.

As expected, there's a new Mario game coming for the 3DS. While New Super Mario Bros. for the DS was a sidescroller, the 3DS Mario is mostly a 3D platfomer - the first one in the Mario series to be created specifically for a handheld. The game doesn't stick to just one perspective however and incorporates top down elements and sidescrolling elements alongside the 3D stuff. Nintendo intends to release the game before the end of the year. Mario's brother is also getting his moment in the sun with a new Luigi's Mansion game. It's not a port of the original, but rather a whole new adventure. The game will once again involve vacuuming up ghosts and coins, but will feature several mansions instead of just one.

Nintendo also revealed a little more information on the already announced port of Starfox 64. As well as controlling the game in the usual manner with buttons and analogue sticks, players will be able to use of the gyroscope in the 3DS to control the action. The game will also be able to record your reactions in multiplayer mode so that people get the satisfaction of seeing your face as they blow you into space dust. Starfox 3DS is coming to stores in September. The new Kid Icarus will have some multiplayer elements, allowing you to fight other people in the sky in 3 on 3 sorties. The game will also come with augmented reality cards that do battle with one another.

I got in pretty late to the live stream, so the only thing I caught was Luigi's Mansion 2. That was pretty damn sweet, if I do say so myself.

I've been saying for years that Luigi's Mansion needs a sequel. Thank you, Nintendo. You just sold another 3DS.

Luigi's Mansion 2.

Fuck yes. Thank you, Nintendo.

Announce Pokemon R/S/E remakes using Gen 4/5 updates and rules, and you'll have my love forever.

But seriously, why wouldn't the new Luigi's mansion be on the wii?! It's perfect for the Wii!

Also

Players will also be able to customize their carts with new parts.
All I could think of was HATS

The 3ds had the strongest showing from Nintendo IMO.

The Weeyou is interesting, but still too many questions remain about how comfortable the controller is, and just how long they can consider themselves equal with the 360 and PS3 now.

Must say I'm disappointed that they're not calling Starfox 3DS by its proper name.

We used to love Lylat Wars as kids.

There's no such thing as a new Mario Kart. Hell, most of Nintendo's games are re-skins nowadays. A straight up remake/port of Ocarina is just further proof of Nintendo's inability to truly innovate beyond gimmicks.

I'm still waiting on the inevitable 3ds( insert whatever makes the 3ds need to be traded in for retail credit)to be announced. Guess they are saving it for the tokyo game show.

Did not expect that Luigi's Mansion would ever get a sequel. It was a great game that was hugely underrated.

Super Mario (3D?) looks cool, but was it just me or did it seem to have both 2D sidescrolling and 3D platforming which if thats the case then I'm getting a 3DS today.

And this

I have been wanting a Luigi's Mansion 2 since I completed nr.1, it's such an underrated game for the GC. One of the best games for the GC imo.

Mario Kart 3D looked awesome...heck, anything announced by nintendo looked beast even the Wii U...crappy name, but looks awesome.

Seriously though..Sony..Nintendo...get better people to come up with names xD

In today's news, Nintendo promises more of the same with additional gimmicks.

To be honest, I wish some other developers would hop on the sequel bandwagon. I'm still waiting for Zone of the Enders 3 and Kingdom Hearts 3.

oh god i thought that intro music they had would never end >.< Oh and the fanboys in the right side tweeter, facebook, google, and yahoo feeds is really annoying.

Honestly though I don't know why alot of the people I've seen are excited about nintendo's presentation it wasn't that great. The only other thing that would have made the hardcore nintendo fans crap their pants would have been if they announced a sonic game. I will admit the WiiU does have some interesting aspects but I still won't be getting one.

Lylat Wars is the European Australian name, in USA it was Star Fox 64... I do agree though, I will always think of it as Lylat Wars, and I have enjoyed Lylat Wars so much. No-one understands what game I am talking about when I mention Lylat Wars...

OT: Not so interesten in Lylat Wars as I once was. I think Star Fox Assault improved it with a far better multiplayer and increased freedom. I would rather see a new Star Fox game being made.
I can't wait for Mario Kart though and I am sure I can get some fun out of Luigi's Mansion too.

Hey, don't be so harsh on them. Nintendo gives us joke fuel with their names, and Sony hasn't tried coming up with a name that got anything remotely creative about it before. I know I will make fun of Weeuweeuweeuweeu until everyone I know is sick of the joke at least. The fact that it sounds like an awesome console doesn't change that.
And Sony have just named their consoles due to number in the line, size and function. They should probably have named it something a little less similar to one of the least popular Windows versions though...

Nintendo seem determined to make us regret buying a Wii. I mean Pilotwings and Luigis Mansion were titles the Wiimote seemed made for and yet they've just pushed them on the crappy 3DS.
