Facebook Poll Teases Layton vs. Phoenix Wright Localization

Level 5, the developer responsible for the Professor Layton series, wants to know which of its Japan-only games Western gamers want the most.

They're using a poll on their official Facebook page [http://www.facebook.com/LEVEL5IA] find out.

There are two Professor Layton titles in the poll; Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, and Professor Layton Vs Phoenix Wright, the former of which will most likely get a full localization regardless. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright is the clear leader so far, beating out titles like ,Ni No Kuni and two iterations of popular soccer game, Inazuma Elven, amongst others.

A tweet by one of the Level 5 developers stresses that the poll isn't being used to make any official decisions, at least not just yet. However, it does come hot on the heels of Level 5 opening its first "International American" office in Santa Monica. The office will be used to both localize and release Japanese developed Level 5 games as well as develop original titles for western audiences.

Regardless, there's still one day left to make your voice heard and naturally you're going to go vote for Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright. Why? Because if you don't, I will murder you. That's why.

I dutifully voted for that title, do I get a pat on the head or is living my reward? Joking aside I am really hoping it will come to Europe, which is odd since I haven't thought about buying any of the games in either series thus far. Something about the idea of a crossover between the two grabs me for some reason.

I'm not that optimistic. Even if they end up localising it for the states, it will be a whole new battle trying to get them to translate it into another five languages for us Europeans. And if the stories I hear of the 3DS not being region free are true, that leaves out the possibility of importing.

I... I have to choose between Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright and Ni No Kuni? That's probably the most difficult decision ever. Either way, please tell me both are getting localized. Whilst I think Layton v Phoenix does need a localisation, Ni No Kuni looks amazing.
The art style, gameplay, characters, everything looks absolutely gorgeous and to top it all off:

It comes with a spell book.

You get a spellbook similar to the main character's and you use it to look up your spells to use in the game. I like things like that.

OT: Personally, I'd love to see the game make it to shelves, but regardless of the outcome, it's going to be a Level 5 game, which is always good in my book.

You know I'm pretty much the reverse (not played layton but loved pheonix), but more Pheonix Wright is golden in my book, and after seeing trailers for that crossover I wanted it bad... then they said it was japan only and I was sad, now thar be hope!!!

Phoenix Wright vs Layton or the incredibly pretty but equally dull Ni No Kuni? That's not anything of a decision. Even if it means getting an imported 3DS or cracking a UK one up to allow imports to be played.

How much control does Capcom have over Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright, anyway? If it's a lot, I doubt we'll get it no matter how many votes it gets. In addition to being massive trolls with Mega Man games, they also denied us Ace Attorney Investigations 2. So I wouldn't be surprised if they exercise every bit of control they have to stop us from getting this one too. Remember, if it's not Dead Rising, Resident Evil, or the 50 millionth version of either Street Fighter or Marvel VS Capcom, they don't want us to play it.
