Third Metro: Last Light E3 Trailer Hits the Rails

The third and final part of the Metro: Last Light [http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Last-Light-Pc/dp/B0053BSMPQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312992250&sr=8-2] gameplay demo from E3 is now up on Youtube.

Back in July, when the first Metro: Last Light E3 gameplay trailer was released, we mentioned that the presence of a mini-gun made it a little more second trailer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111650-Metro-Last-Light-Gameplay-Trailer-Debuts] featured a running escape from a set-piece in a Reich station, also very action-packed and bullets-flying. And now part three is upon us and once again it's a fast-paced firefight from start to finish.

I'm assuming that "god mode" was enabled for this video, as Artyom seems a lot more bullet-resistant and his crappy rifle deals out a lot more damage than I remember. And while it's hard to argue with better run-and-gun action, and acknowledging that this is an E3 trailer designed specifically to grab eyeballs, I'm not sure this is the sort of thing that's really going to go over with Metro fans. You can't blame THQ for wanting to broaden the game's appeal beyond that relatively limited audience, I just hope they don't throw the baby out with the bathwater in the process.

On the upside, it looks great, although I hope that music is just a placeholder. Metro: Last Light is currently expected to come out in the first half of 2012 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Go over well with Metro fans? There were action sequences like this peppered throughout metro 2033. I see nothing wrong with the inclusion of this here. The game looks fantastic and I can not wait to get my hands on it. The last one was easily my favorite shooter of the past couple of years. This one doesn't look to disappoint.

Looks pretty good. Hope they do still have the stealth option, though. It was my favorite playstyle in the first because the game made sneaking hard.

Eh, I'm not particularly worried.

It's not like there's nothing there that wasn't in Metro 2033.

Firefights? Check.
Mounted heavy weapons? Check.
Bullet riddled chase scene? Check.
One-shot-kill weapons? Check.
Rail-shooter vehicle section? Check.
Optional stealth approach? Check.

Yeah, but judging by what theyve shown... It looks like its more of a run and gun shooter this time around. Which sucks.

Are they making a multiplayer mode? If so, it will probably suck compared to the first.
Umm...I was under the impression the videos released we're all in continuity of eachother so that means that this is one big scene. Even if it isn't, 5-8 minutes of gameplay footage does not define this game. I see the same game with the same atmosphere as the first. There isn't any reason to throw the alarm just yet in my opinion.

No clue about a multiplayer mode but that isn't what I'm playing this game for anyways.

Crappy rifle?

Lol whut? It's a new weapon to Metro Last Light, apparently the favourite one on the team, and it does a load of damage mid range.

They said they readjected the combat to be more vicisiral and guns more realistic, so a big caliber rifle would of course tear Neo-Nazies apart.

If you're talking about the AK, even THAT was boss in the last game.

They promised this game would have more sleath, and they would retweek the sleath system to make it MORE sleathy, does that make you happy? It's just good PR to show off one of the more action packed bits.

Also yes there is MP, but they've been designing it since before the end of 2033, they just didn't have the same to implement it. So why are you worried about that? If they've spent that long perfecting it it's bound to be good.

No, thats what I meant though. Them including a multiplayer mode would give some indication on what in what general direction they are heading and what the target crowd is (not the one the first game had). Thats all I meant.
I don't think that's true. Not every person is Treyarch or DICE. For all we know the MP could have a really unqiue sleath element, wouldn't that be fun to play?

Either way, apparently the full demo is 20 minutes long, so I don' think you can judge a...12 hour game on 20 minutes, either way.

We'll see, either way. Maybe we'll talk in future Metro threads.

Looks like my PC won't be able to handle this. *sadface*

Oh well, I really liked the first so It's that guaranteed I'll get this. And why is everybody throwing a hissy fit on the action scenes? It's not like the first one didn't have shortage of those, Hell the first game had you take out a Nazi APC with a mounted MG.

Yep, thats the point in the end. We will see. If Metro Last Light is a poor mans MW3, I will think its a pity and just stick with MW3. If its not, I will buy 3 copies and kiss the games arse for months to come because Metro 2033 was already without a doubt my favorite shooter in years and more of it in a slightly more polished way sounds awesome.
I don't think it will be a poors mans MW3 just because it has multiplayer. I think that's what I hate about CoD, everyone thinks if your game has multiplayer it's going to be a boring, generic shooter.

Either way, I think the game developers know that their game was popular because it was unique. They've keeping the bullet enecomy so that's an indication you can't go around shooting bullets.

I mean if you got any questions, they do reply on the Metro twitter page, quite a lot actually.

For the record, I have high hopes for the game. But there's been quite a bit of criticism of the videos among fans because of the focus on action over the tough survival-horror elements. Much ass was kicked in the first game, sure, but what made it so memorable is that you weren't some meat-slab hero with a gun, you were just a guy trying to save his community. Enemies were tough, guns were shit and it was a struggle to survive from one moment to the next. I don't want to see Last Light give that up in an attempt to broaden its audience.

But again, this was an E3 promo designed to be bright, noisy and attract attention, and I think it's very like that it's not representative of the whole game. Fingers crossed.

*Cue rage over multiplayer from fans in 3...2...1...*

I'm not worried about combat at all really. It was a lot of fun sneaking through a base, killing guys until the alert went up and everything went batshit insane, but I played Metro for the amazing atmosphere. The stark, depressing environment was what made the game for me.

And hey, if this doesn't float your boat, STALKER 2 comes out in 2012.

EDIT: After watching the demos, the parts people seem to be saying are 'like CoD' are pretty much like scenes from the first game. Khan and Artyom's escape from the rally is very much like when Artyom had to run from the Communist secret police in the first game, and the minigun bit reminds me a lot of when you hopped on machine guns in the Frontline chapter.
