Menu Loving Diablo 3 Fan Leaks Beta Footage

Who doesn't want to see Diablo 3's menus being used in real time? Lots of people, probably.

Today I learned that Diablo 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Diablo-III-Pc/dp/B00178630A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315234749&sr=8-1] has quite a lot of menus. It probably has plenty of content that isn't menus too, but you'd be hard pressed to believe it if you relied solely on the content leaked out by one list-loving beta tester.

The video is a mix of screenshots and footage. Unfortunately, where the parts you'd hope would be screenshots, like the menus, are actually video, and the parts you'd rather see as video, like, say, the gameplay, are all just screenshots. We do get to see what amounts to the bookends of gameplay - basically the options you get when you fire up a new game and the countdown timer as you leave one - but rather frustratingly, there's very little in between.

It's not like there's never been any footage of Diablo 3's before, so this isn't all that annoying; if anything it's just bizarre that someone would record so much of the dull parts of the game, and then spend so little time on the interesting parts.

Diablo 3 is hopefully coming out for PC later this year.

Aside from the oddity on how the video focuses more on the menus of "Diablo 3" instead of the actual gameplay footage. Just watching the game makes me even more disappointed in this game since it just 'looks' more like an MMORPG. I'm sure it would be a great game, but I'll keep my eye out for "Torchlight II" instead.

why does it look more then a MMO? because of the quests? because of the interface?
sure they look like those in a MMO, but it also looks like the interface of D2, with ofcourse the change how you cast/choose your spells.

Most of these screenshots and info have been up on Mmo-champion for a while now. But I have to agree that I'd be waiting for some real info, not some menus.

The way the player logs into the game or logs out makes it look like an MMORPG to me. of course this is a nit-pick argument from me, and as said before I think the game would be great.

I know this is the beta version of the game so a lot of that might be taken out in the final release.

I'm loving how this game looks like it's been made by downwards of 30 people. Doesn't look anything like something an AAA studio would develop, and certainly not the most well funded of them all.

Almost everything about it looks cheap.
???

Did you hear about the part in the video where it was explained the resolution was low and the graphics set to almost minimum?

I don't know what you mean by "cheap". Diablo 3 looks gorgeous to me, and it seems to have great production values: http://www.youtube.com/ForceSC2strategy#p/c/5C2F514ECED855CA/1/vbGeuFkZIMI

This is diablo. The majority of your (Conscious) time playing it is going to be outside the game, on min/maxing sites.

I'm pretty sure that the narrator doesn't know squat about how screen shots actually work.

Yeah, you're probably right. He only has an entire Youtube channel dedicated to capturing, editing, posting and commenting videos and screenshots about many games, such as Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Magic the Gathering etc. What could he possibly know about the arcane art of hitting the Print Screen button.

well, you have to be online to play, so yeah, you have to log in. and ok, the menu where you log in does resemble the wow log in, but still, not enough to say i looks like a MMO.

but sure, we all know it will be a awesome game and i'm really looking forward to it.

Again, what does it have to do with how good it looks?
I've just said, it has to do with how much detail you can portray.

Are you saying Goldeneye looks better than Crysis? Or that neither looks better and it's all subjective?
I see your point, I guess. Sure, Blizzard could have gone for Crysis level graphics, but why?

Try to understand my point as well. Diablo 3, irrespective of polygon count, looks gorgeous. It has a lot to do with art direction, animation, use of color etc. Sure, it's not exactly Crysis, but it's not Golden-Eye either. Honestly, to me it looks like Starcraft 2 (which would make sense), and Starcraft 2 was a beautiful game.

What I appreciate in Blizzard games is that they can look beautiful but still keep the polygon count relatively low so as to work on a wider range of hardware. I play games on my laptop, and I'm really happy with the fact that Starcraft 2 and probably Diablo 3 work on it smoothly.

What's the point of just simply adding polygons to everything? We've reached a point where better graphics are offering diminishing returns. For every extra million dollars you pump in your graphics engine, you only get a game that looks slightly better.

I think graphics are pretty advanced as they are now (even in, gasp, Diablo 3) and more money should be pumped in gameplay, balance, bug-testing and optimization so that a game runs as many systems as possible. From these standpoints, I cannot imagine you seeing Blizzard as a small team of amateurs.

EDIT: Also, googled Grim Dawn. It looks like shit, compared to Diablo 3. You're free to disagree, I guess, since that's what you're probably going to do.

There will be a few weeks in the beginning of the beta test (and again on release) testing to see the min/maxing, so there's that!

Plus, you can respec now, so you can min/max a leveling build instead of being rushed with no skill points. You get to min/max your character twice! I'm glad we won't have to be in charge of stat points though. Hopefully patches will address flavor of the month builds to an extent, and they won't make any Hammerdin mistakes.
