Valve Working With Modders to Create New Global Offensive Modes

After months of being coy, Valve has finally announced some of the new game modes that will be featured in the upcoming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The new game modes Arsenal: Demolition and Arsenal: Arms Race are both based on a popular Counter-Strike: Source mod called Gun Game, in which getting kills with specific weapons in a specific order unlocks increasingly powerful weaponry.

In fact, in true Valve style, the company is currently working with the team of modders who created the original Gun Game mod. The lead designer of the original mod, Michael Barr, seems rather pleased with all of this, saying, "We are excited that Valve reached out and is working with us to ensure Arsenal Mode is the best version of Gun Game."

It all feels eerily familiar, what with Valve taking a well-loved mod and working with the original designers to create an official version of the game. I get the strangest feeling that the new Arsenal modes should include a jar of urine and silly hats.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be available for PC, Mac, 360, and PS3 sometime early next year. For those of you too impatient to wait that long, you could always try out the original Gun Game mod for CS: Source.

I honestly couldn't care less if the game has modes.

But does it have Rats? Or Scoutzknivez? :D

How about working with modders to make a new Natural Selection? Vampire Hunter? Desert Crisis? The Specialists? All far better then fucking CS.

This had better be closer to Gun Game than Black Ops was (i.e. Team-based, multiple kills per weapon)

Well you haveto understand CS much like StarCraft has transcendent into a sport, and with sports people want consistency.

But if you suggested these mods to the devs they might look into them for new game modes.

Valve at least does things from the community, with the community and for the community.... they try harder to make fun games, then games for profit, and i honour that.

Valve is in my top 5 of best gaming companies ever!!!

Hey Valve! How about you stop making remakes of old games and finish Episode 3 already, hmmm?

Fucking love CS:S Gun Game. Reverse Gun Game was pretty much all I used to play apart from the occasional Scoutzknivez to help hone my sniping and knifing. Which it did to the great annoyance of my friends when having a LAN match.

Natural Selection 2 has been in development for quite some time by Unknown Worlds on their own in-house engine. If you've preordered the game, you can play the beta right now.

The irony of that statement has hopefully hit you by now.

OT: Well that's neat, I feel like I'm one of the few people on this site genuinely excited for CS:GO....and by the looks of this thread, I just may be the only person. Hopefully they just haven't gotten up yet.

That's not a "remake", that's "the next episode of a TV show, the last of which ended on a cliffhanger".

Don't blame me for going off topic, I'm only here because I thought "Global Offensive Modes" meant some kind of new MMO gameplay, not Counterstrike.

I've had good times on CS:S with zombie survival games and those ones where everyone has to run through a series of obstacles to escape a map before it blows up or something (Escape? Leg it?).....

As have I.

The most fun I've had on Counter-Strike came from the zombie survival/escape mods.

Pretty neat.

Been a while since I played CS, so I'm really looking forward to getting back into it with GO. Fun times will be had.

I am and I'm not to be honest, yea i love CS:S and i love GG so by rights i should be over the moon about this but after the engine update to CS:S and how much they keep screwing everything up with these 'little' updates (seriously give us back the old crosshairs Valve lol) i'm more apprehensive than excited about GO at the moment

Also from what I've seen the character animations are lacking, the gun models are awful and the gfx don't seem to be all that much improved on source so i kinda don't see the point in shelling out presumable 15-20 quid for GO when i could continue playing source for free

Nah, players already have an entire war-themed hat simulator game for that. And to think that it was originally a team-based shooter!

In all seriousness, it's nice to see Valve continue their practice of cooperating with the talented modding community, even if I personally don't give a hoot in hell about Counter-Strike.
