Soccer Wizards Reenact Angry Birds

Say what you will about Angry Birds, but when combined with the world's favorite sport, the results are simply mind-blowing.

Quick: When was the last time you saw a really impressive soccer video inspired by Angry Birds? Never, you say? That's all about to change.

The video features University of North Carolina Asheville goalkeepers Lassi Hurskainen and Dan Jackson competing to see who can most accurately recreate the kind of physics-defying shots you see in Rovio's casual gaming hit using only soccer balls, stuffed pigs and their insanely talented kicking skills.

The most impressive bit is that none of these kicks are digitally altered. Unless these soccer players moonlight as CGI artists for WETA, everything you see here actually happened. Thus, that shot at 0:50 where Hurskainen curves the ball in mid-air to nail a pig 30 meters away on top of a scoreboard is both incredibly cool and a bit frightening to those of us who couldn't nail that pork analogue with a sniper rifle and a full clip of tracer rounds.

In short, hats off to the boys from UNC Asheville. They've managed to make both Angry Birds and soccer exciting to a jaded Yankee like myself. All without a single explosion or a come-hither glance from David Beckham.

Err, Angry Birds is Rovio Mobile, not Zynga. How does one even make that mistake?

Good eye. Let's blame a lack of caffeine. Amended.

I don't care how many tried those kicks took, that was some amazing accuracy.

I'm impressed.

Awesome aiming. That curved shot would have been better if there was an obstacle in the middle. Take that Angelina Jolie.

This might be one of the coolest things I've seen this week.

Bravo to the guys making the shot, must of taken them several tries to make those hits.

No matter who you are, sometimes you just have to sit back and say that's amazing. The internet has an unlimited ability to try and trivialize difficult things. Don't critique, or nit-pick, or dismiss. There are very few of us who could do what they did.

Good times gentlemen, good times.

They are Goal Keepers? Wonder what the rest of the team in the outfield could do as generally speaking you don't have to be that accurate with your place kicks from goal. Long as you could reliably get them 10 or so meters over the half way line and in the general area of a team mate it was concidered decent enough when I played goalkeeper about 20 odd years ago.

Yeah its impressive, but dont go thinking they did them all in one go. :)
Yeah, it looks a lot more impressive when you edit out all the misses. Still, there are a few shots that would take forever for a mere mortal to ever hit.

Soccer? SOCCER?! There's something about being English that makes me freak out when I see that word. Hell, I don't even like footy that much, but still!

On topic, the overly American cameo guy made me laugh hard.

I agree with above, these guys were keepers??? I know you get a couple of set piece specialist keepers but it's really not a usual skill set :D

Holy shit these guys can kick... I remember playing in High School and being pretty good but these guys make me feel like a complete amateur.
