Uncharted 3 Goes Gold, Comes With Starhawk Beta Key

Buy Uncharted 3 for the lost cities, stay for the battles in space.

Uncharted 3 [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EQCCI4/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d0_g63_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0008NH6Y48HQHV46Z469&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846] has reached the hallowed "gold" status, meaning that it has passed the certification process and now disks can be pressed. Those disks will come with an extra bonus as well: a key to the upcoming Starhawk beta.

Starhawk is the spiritual successor to 2007's Warhawk and mixes sci-fi elements with Wild West imagery. Like Warhawk, it allows players to pilot a number of different vehicles, from space-age buggies, to high-tech fighter craft. There's also an interesting looking single player mode, where a grizzled gun-for-hire has to fight "The Outlaw," to save the town of White Sand. Adding further complication is the fact that the protagonist and the Outlaw are related. Presumably the beta, which is scheduled to start at some point in early 2012, will only cover the multiplayer portion though, and players will have to wait to try out the single player.

Also included on the Uncharted 3 disc will be a behind the scenes look at the game's development. There's not a lot of details on what to expect from this content, but supposedly it will be similar to the videos included with Resistance 3.

Using beta access as an incentive to buy a game is nothing new in console games, although usually publishers include keys for more established series in new IPs. This is pretty much the reverse of the usual situation, but it could still prove very successful.

Uncharted 3 comes out for PS3 on November 1st.

Do we know if this key is US only, or if it's distributed in Uncharted 3 copies elsewhere as well?

Starhawk seems like it has potential. I did enjoy Warhawk a bit. I'm already getting Uncharted 3, so I might as well try the beta, right?

I played Starhawk at GAMEfest last month. Cant say i cared for it at all! I really liked Warhawk :(
That's too bad.
I'm a fan of Warhawk and I'm looking forward to Starhawk.
Not so much that I want to beta test it...not unless they want to pay me. As a consumer, I'd rather just play the game when it's done. That and going by the quality control I've seen out of the industry this gen, this whole Beta Testing as a Bonus/Prize only seems to be hurting the quality of the final product. Maybe they should just leave it to professionals.

What was disappointing about Starhawk? I like the additions they've made; did they take away features? I'll be upset if they take away split screen and custom soundtracks.

I like this whole Beta key pattern that we're getting. Resistance, Uncharted 3, Killzone, Battlefield, Bulletstorm...I'm a happy camper.

I'm not attracted to Warhawk nor Starhawk. But hey, if I get the Beta for free when I buy Uncharted 3, why not give it a shot?

OT: And am I the only having problems with the Uncharted 3 beta? Every time I try to log in and find a match or whatever, the loading bar never moves past a certain point. Every other game with Multiplayer works just fine, though. It's sad because I really wanted to play the Beta before buying the game.

It was only a 2 system setup when i played it so it was mostly bots. The problem was the AI seemed ridiculous with me getting blown up/sniped from across the map as soon as i spawn. Hopefully that wont be an issue in the final game.
Was that the only issue?
'Cause to tell you the truth, that has me more excited...as long as the bot skill is adjustable and not constantly set to hardcore spawnfraggers. Hell, we didn't even have bots before.
I got sniped across the field by other players in Warhawk anyway.
How big was the field anyway?
