Nerdy Halloween Costumes Top Charts

Give candy to superheroes, digital constructs, and distressed avians this Halloween.

As far as this writer is concerned, Halloween is the best holiday of the year. It lacks the massive crowds of Labor Day, the travel mishaps of Thanksgiving, and the crass commercialism of Christmas. Halloween, at its core, is about two things and two things only: costumes and candy. If you're hoping to unleash your inner nerd for All Hallows' Eve, you're not alone. This year, cowboys, Indians, cops, and robbers will take a backseat to superheroes, robots, literary characters, and even a certain subset of limbless birds.

According to price aggregator SortPrice, the most popular costumes for adults include jumpsuits from Tron: Legacy, the cast of Angry Birds, Duffman from The Simpsons, and the ever-elusive Waldo of Where's Waldo? fame. Children, meanwhile, have been eager to get their hands on Harry Potter, Wolverine, and Bumblebee from Transformers. Unsurprisingly, Captain America and Green Lantern are top-sellers for both age demographics, but readers may be pleased to know that these costumes are selling well with both genders as well.

Those of you hoping for a nerd revolution may have to wait until next year. "Sexy" variations on bees and pirates still rank in the adult costumes, along with simulacra of the Jersey Shore's wardrobes. Children still flock to princesses, Elmo, and the Smurfs. However, the upsurge of pop culture costumes, along with a growing demand for more "traditional" getups "has put at least a small dent in the popularity of 'sexy' themed costumes that have dominated SortPrice's list in years past," writes the website's staff.

Arguably, the preferred costumes this year have more to do with recent movies than some kind of geeky cultural awakening. Even so, a large chunk of the Western world will be embracing its inner nerd come Halloween; will you?

It is My Bithday on Thursday so My Halloween will be combined with a Birthday Celebration as Usual

This Year I am uber-Nerding it and going as Jon Snow. I have ablack cape which I have attached fur to around the shoulders. I am repurosing a wig to look like Kit Harringdons hair and I even have a small white wolf like plushie. I am missing only a Wolf Head for the pommel of Sword for Longclaw and my outfit will be ready!

Really wish HBO had given someone the rights to make replica costumes as I wouldve paid through the nose for a Full Hound Kit including Helmet and burn makeup

Is the image broken for anyone else?
Yup.

OT: Eh, not gonna dress up this year. Halloween's not a big thing in Norway. Next year though, when i'm in America, i'm planning to dress up as the Doctor. Maybe my girlfriend wants to be my companion :D

Just back from a Halloween party. Went as the 11th Doctor. Never got hit on so much in my life. By which I mean this was the first time. So apparently I look quite a bit like Matt Smith. Looking like Matt Smith is cool.

Yeah I'm a nerd but I'm going as a half naked cowboy. Sorry but tights aren't my thing.

Popular movies aren't very nerdy....

I'll be Alex Delarge from a clockwork orange. Needless to say I'm going to be 'singing in the rain' all night long.
