Ellen Likes The Xbox

Ellen DeGeneres probably earned a few new fans at Xbox 360 [http://www.microsoft.com] to every member of her studio audience.

The audience was certainly happy about it, erupting in cheers and applause the moment she uncovered the console box, but perhaps more entertaining are the follow-up comments posted on the show's website, most of which begin with a sob-story and end with a request for an Xbox 360 of their own. My personal favorite, though, asks for something a little different:

"Dear Ellen, I am poor and cannot afford to buy my son Timmy (aged 9) a console for Christmas. Please could you send me a Resistance 2 [http://www.playstation.com] as it would be a dream come true. Don't worry about the Xbox 2.5, I would rather have a true HD gaming console."

Check out the giveaway, and the comments, here [http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2008/10/ellens_audience_members_get_xb.php].

Can't help it...

/cynic mode on.

X-Box 360...$75. Probably discounted down to $50 for Micro$oft free advertising.
Audience members...say 200; so that's $10,000.

Follow up free one column advert in all the gaming/TV/women's magazines for the Ellen Show...

I'm not sure Malygris, any idea on a ball park figure for that amount of advertising?

Oh and 200 Devoted Fans, 2,000 odd Hopeful fans and record viewing figures for that show?

not only are two of the games requested supposed to not be sold to anyone under the age of 17, but this "poor" parent is being picky over which HD console they want, has to be a fake.

Some of the comments are just stupid like all the ones saying they were gonna go to the show but didn't end up going yet could they still get a Xbox. Still I would naturally prefer a car though.

Hi Ellen,

What you did was really generous and thoughtful.

My mother is sick. My father is dying. I recently discovered I am also dying. The company I work for is about to go bankrupt. My family can barely put food on the table. My shoes hurt my feet. I can't afford cat food anymore. Women and children say my name. I have been trying to lose weight. I voted. I have to stand a lot.

Can I have an XBox 360, please?
Um...I really don't know what to say about this.

Some of you fail at humour.

The comment asking for a PS3 is obviously a joke.

Indigo_Dingo is still waiting for his PS3, Ellen.

Cute I guess. I don't really read anything into it. Huge Advert boon for Microsoft though.
