Violence, NES Icons Collide In Abobo's Big Adventure

Forget Jimmy and Billy Lee. The real star of Double Dragon was Abobo, and now he's finally getting the attention he deserves.

Crafted by the fine folks at I-Mockery [http://www.i-mockery.com/], Abobo's Big Adventure is a Flash game that blends late-80s-era urban fisticuffs with a strikingly huge assortment of the 8-bit characters that were such an important part of your childhood.

(For the purposes of this article, we're going to assume you're old enough to rent a carpet shampooer.)

Now granted, the game itself has yet to be released -- "coming soon" is the most solid ETA we're been offered -- but today marks the launch of the game's official trailer. I don't want to spoil the fun, but I assure you that many, many people get punched in the face. It's Reagan-era justice as envisioned by the NES (and then re-envisioned by people with a borderline-terrifying reservoir of nostalgia for the NES) and for those of us who grew up with the characters featured in the game, it's just wonderful.

If, after watching the clip, you're as psyched about the concept as I am, you can visit the game's official site [http://www.abobosbigadventure.com/index.php#news] both to get current updates on the game's status (and whatever tangentially related occurrences seem newsworthy) and sign up for the imminent beta test. Again, since this is a project being crafted by fans, and not a big corporation, there are no hard and fast deadlines on when that beta might start, but dropping your email address into the appropriate field will ensure that you find out about it before anyone other than pampered games journalists.

It looks AWESOME, but is it bad that the first thing I thought was "but that cat is from Chrono Trigger"?

Now, where the hell can I get a good old NES
controller that works on my computer?

Ask and ye shall receive.
