The Flamethrower That Fits In Your Pocket
"Think for a moment about the concept of the flamethrower," says comedian George Carlin during one of his best routines [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4nknAzQPHE]. "We have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done." But what if you're not too far away, but too close? Well, the guys at instructables [http://www.instructables.com/id/MooseBear-Repellent-aka-FLAME-THROWER/#step1] have you covered. In fire, to be precise.
Deigned by instructables user PDRWLSN, the flamethrower pistol [http://www.instructables.com/id/MooseBear-Repellent-aka-FLAME-THROWER/] was originally designed, not to rain fire upon your enemies, but to light campfires. It's made from materials easily obtained from a local hardware store and powered by one AA and a can of butane. It's marginally safer than the traditional "hairspray and a match" flamethrowers favored by the twelve year olds and demented, objectivist vigilantes of yore [http://youtu.be/ELSGwz7xTmM?t=1m15s], but not that much safer. "Be safe, have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby and someone else there in case what's burning is you," says PDRWLSN. "Never operate indoors. You wouldn't pee up a rope or spit into the wind, it'll get ya if you do, so don't use it when the wind is blowing."
Personally I'm hoping to commission two of them. Just in case I ever come across two campfires that need lighting at the same time.

"Is that a flamethrower in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?" It's a flamethrower, actually.
