Hip-Hop Violinist Performs Zelda Medley, Steals Hearts

Based on this music video, Link clearly needs to put down the ocarina and start playing the violin.

There's no denying that the Legend of Zelda games feature some lovely music. The games' soundtracks are doubly lovely when they're performed by insanely talented musicians. Just in time for the release of <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Skyward-Sword-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002BSC54I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321568679&sr=8-1>The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword, a new video has surfaced with a truly lovely medley of music from the games.

The music video stars violinist Lindsey Stirling in full Hyrule garb, playing a medley of pieces from the various Zelda games. Stirling arranged the piece, and then teamed up with <a href=http://www.youtube.com/user/devinsupertramp>Devin Graham to film it.

If Stirling's sounds familiar, there's probably a reason for that. The young lady has been making a name for herself since she started posting videos of herself doing hip-hop violin routines on YouTube. In 2010, her musical abilities <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnZR8SQ7PEo>took her pretty far on America's Got Talent and she's been making a name for herself as a professional musician ever since then.

Personally, I'm in love with this video. And Ms. Stirling, obviously. However, I do wish that she had incorporated a couple of dance moves from <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR3q5fuDSDw>The Zelda Dance, just for giggles.

Oh, and in case you're interested in downloading the song, <a href=http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/zelda-medley-single/id481386691>it's available on iTunes.

This is awesome.

I love violins, especially when performing "modern" tunes.

As a side-note though, women dressing up as Link will forever confuse my lower torso.

I am sorry but I have to say that after listening to the song and knowing Apocalyptica and being a fan of them I can say without a doubt that is NOT Apocalyptica. I also did a quick google search and found this on the OCRemix site. http://ocremix.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-5521.html
also the most thumbed up comment on the video you linked says that it isn't Apocalyptica. As the post points out there is more than just Cellos in the song. I know that Apocalyptica has had more instuments such as drums and guitars in some of their songs they have to my knowledge never had a full ensemble of string instruments that you can clearly hear in the song. Main part is Violins the background melody is Violas while the bass line is cellos if I am not mistaken.

First comment on that YouTube page:

THIS IS NOT APOCALYPTICA!!!

dude, seriously...? this is the Legend of Zelda Medley from the Hyrule Symphony CD. It's mostly songs from Ocarina of Time arranged for a String Quartet, and this is the last song on the cd. How can you not notice the&#65279; violins and the viola in there? Apocalyptica are only cellos.

Sorry if this is rude, but don't take credit away from Koji Kondo who arranged it himself.

Don't get me wrong, I like Apocalyptica, but still...

That is by far the sexiest and nerdiest portrayal of an epic piece of video game music I've ever laid eyes on.

Lindsey Sterling, marry me?

A meh for me. Although the violin is well played it isn't excellent, and the environs and camera work look professionally done. However the video does boil down to someone prancing about with a violin to some Zelda music. Would've preferred as an MP3 to be frank.
Although maybe I was spoiled by the LOZ concert, as this sounded too similar to that to enjoy as much as I did that live.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing Link using a violin as a musical instrument in one game. Violins are cool.

That was pretty good. Also if they make a live action Zelda movie I want her to play Link...

Hey, thanks for pointing that out. It's been floating on my iPod for years, credited as Apocalyptica. I just snagged the video quickly and didn't read the comments. I've removed the mention from the article, but I wanted to let you know that I appreciated you bringing that to my attention.

No problem. Only reason I can somewhat pick out the instruments is because a friend of mine plays/played the violin. She pretty much told me that what I thought was a Violin for the Vitamin String Quartet was a Viola so I have actually started listening to different single solo string instruments and started to be able to pick them out.

Some average looking girl dresses up and shows some talent and mostly everyone in the room goes nuts. We certainly are an impressionable bunch aren't we? She's ok I suppose but the jumping and weaving around while playing the violin is annoying to watch. The rest of the video is alright.
