Valve's Steam Cloud Rolls In This Week

PC gamers will soon be able to get their Steam on with save games and user data on the go.

Announced Left 4 Dead [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84199-Steam-Update-Will-Save-Users-Games] on November 6 and the full game later this month.

Steam Cloud is being made available to developers and publishers using steam, and Valve will be adding support for the program to its back catalogue of games on Steam. When logging onto the Steam [http://store.steampowered.com/] service on another computer, user settings and game data will be synced from Cloud to the current machine.

"For some time now, Steam has allowed gamers to log on from any computer in the world and access their applications. This also makes it easy to upgrade a PC without worrying about losing your games," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Steam Cloud is a natural extension of the portability Steam affords gamers and developers, and we intend to expand its feature set as it is used in Left 4 Dead and other games coming to Steam."

Mmmmmm...brains. Steamed brains.

You say this like it is a bad thing. I embrace Steam, as it is the evolution of PC gaming. I look at all of my old PC games sitting on the shelf in my closet. They date back to 1998. I couldn't be bothered to install them if I had a whim to play them again. but with Steam, all I have to do is click install, go do something for an hour while it downloads, then play it.

I have no fear that Steam will be around for a very long time.
