NeverDead Alive in January

Konami actually pushed up the release date like so many daisies.

In NeverDead, you play a guy that, well, never dies. If he loses his members (heh), he can just roll around until more adhere to his body. It's like Bryce Boltzmann - a rare protagonist of Jewish descent in an Eastern game - is some kind of humanoid Katamari Damacy who also shoots things. The concept is interesting, and Konami is confident enough in the skills of designer Shinta Nojiri (Metal Gear) that NeverDead is ready for a January 31st release on Xbox 360 and PS3, ahead of its scheduled February launch.

"In NeverDead, we've gone all out to change the approach the player takes in battle," said Nojiri. "Losing a limb is a mere inconvenience and Bryce's physical skills allow a wealth of ways to take out the enemy - from close-range combat, to throwing limbs into clusters of monsters and shooting them remotely. This adds a level of humor to the game that brings the world-weary main character to life, while players revel in game worlds that are fully interactive and eminently destructible."

World-weary main character? Clusters of monsters? Interactive and destructible environments? ZOMBIES? This game's got everything.

While I can't say I'm super-excited for NeverDead, it will come out during a notriously slow period for game releases so I might take a gander at it. That is, if I'm not still playing catch-up on the ten or fifteen awesome games that came out last month ...

something tells me this is a rent more than a buy. i feel like if this were a suda 51 game it would be more appealing, because this doesn't feel like something konami would make

Megadeth did the song for this so I automatically approve on some level. While it looks unique, I'm not really interested.

hmmm... A demon hunter who can't die, has the ability to regenerate himself, and, as I understand from the trailer, can never truly work alone

This game is a hypothetical scenario in which Doctor Who is a demon hunter

A sped up release date means nothing. It will still be...

The character doesn't look Jewish enough.

And is anyone familiar with the Terror Inc. comic series? Might be so much more fun playing as a rotting corpse in various states of decay.

While I do love the idea of using an arm holding a gun to distract a bunch of demon dogs, I just hope your NPC partner isn't made of cardboard or that there aren't a bunch of escort missions.

Thank God, I was worried.
It was originally noted as Q4 2011 by gaming websites.

I like the name, but otherwise it seems pretty stereotypical with yet another in-game justification for regenerating health. Being able to "never truely die" also justifies the in-game mechanic of a respawn. Clever I suppose, but ultimatly just a fancy way of writing around stereotypical shooter mechanics. Using limbs and such as weapons for purposes of "humor", we've seen that in games going as far back as Spawn (and perhaps earlier) to
say nothing of "Stubbs The Zombie" or even Dead Space where a standard tactic is to pickup the severerd weapon-limbs of enemies with telekinesis and lob than at other enemies to conserve ammo.

It's big claim to fame right now seems to be it's attempt to drum up religious fervor. If it's correct that the character is "openly Jewish" as opposed to being of more or less undeclared (or purely fantastic) religious affiliation, that seems like an attempt to pick a fight given all of the... contreversy, surrounding the semitic faith given the big market for gaming and the liable reaction from religious groups and so on.

Don't get the impression this bothers me personally (or that I'm saying that as a dodge of some kind), I'm merely saying this because it's literally the only thing that sticks out in this game.

See, in "Dead Space" with the name "Issac" you might be able to deduce that the protaganist is Jewish or his parents followed that faith at least (though it's not a definate, since it's never specified), but it's not a focus of the game in the same way with someone being "openly Jewish" which leads me to believe religious discussion, hebrew commentary, and other stuff is going to abound... and well, I think it's going to get the wrong kind of attention... if the game gets attention at all. The concept and gameplay that's been mentioned certainly don't stick in my mind as anything special on their own.

While I can't say I'm very optimistic about the game itself, I've already got it on my rental Q just 'cause it looks batshit crazy.
So much like my dreams, it's scary.

Fuck. It's already December. Time to fake my death, only to magically be alive again after Christmas so I don't have to pretend to like my family.
They will be so happy when they learn of this miracle that they will all come to visit you. For a week.

Also one of the few perhaps looking forward to this.

I was wondering about this game the other day. Saw a video for it a long while back, and then nothing. Glad to see that I'll get a chance to play it next month. Next month? Fuck. It's already December. Time to fake my death, only to magically be alive again after Christmas so I don't have to pretend to like my family.

Back on track. Any game that makes losing a limb a minor inconvenience instead of life threatening is on my list of awesome things. It keeps making me think of Re-Animator, and I don't know why because I know the two are worlds apart. Maybe I just want everything to be like Re-Animator.
Ha! This is why I'm glad everyone in my family is either dead or in jail. No exceptions.

...Nope. None.

Well then! I wonder if you can die in this game. It really doesn't matter if you can't, since 'dying' in most games just means that you load up a quicksave from two minutes ago, but I'm sure people will complain about how it's too easy and whatever.
