Real-Life Lara Croft: Guns Yes, Archeology No

In what can only be described as a horribly uncomfortable clash between fantasy and reality, it turns out that the "real" Lara Croft don't know much 'bout that archeology stuff.

Alison Carroll was Ekstra Bladet [http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169282] decided to ask the model a few easy questions about archeology, "just for fun," but the results obviously weren't any fun for anyone present.

Caroll, the Lara Croft model, seemed simultaneously perplexed by the questions and worried that her obvious ignorance would reflect poorly on Lara Croft. Her handler stepped in almost immediately to halt the questions, but the interviewer persisted, appearing surprised that his questions wouldn't be allowed. "Carnage," as 1Up [http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171160] described it, ensued.

I'm well aware that expecting an actress dressed up like Lara Croft to have a functional knowledge of archeology is completely unreasonable, but that doesn't make the discussion between the interviewer and her handler over whether or not she should wear the "U R DUM" sign around her neck any less painful to watch. See for yourself here [http://ekstrabladet.tv/flash/article1079672.ece].

I feel that the questions were a bit unfair. She's a model not an archaeologist. Do voice actors and motion-capture actors and just plain actors know everything about their subject area? I bet they don't quite a bit of the time. Poor her.

Not gonna lie, those were pretty tough to just ask someone on the fly. Particularly the second one, who the Hell knows what Angkor Wat is without a quick wiki?

'Harsh questions'?! What are you folks on!? Basic ancient history, gents! Basic!

Do voice actors and motion-capture actors and just plain actors know everything about their subject area
Not really, but at least they know the basics. Then again, those professions often feature more educated individuals. This is a girl who makes a living out of pretending to be a videogame character, for Christ's sake. Its not as if they asked the former Activison PR girl-turned-Playmate such questions. Then again, she'd probably know the answers.

That interview is a cringe-fest, but just goes to show.

And yeah, I also laughed at the Grail thing. :p

Ekstra Bladet - for those who've never understood why news & porn shouldn't necessarily be the same.

I friggin' hate that newspaper, I'm actually flattering it by even calling it's a newspaper. God, it sucks.

Also, I'm not surprised that an actor wouldn't know anything about archaeology.

Uhh, the Temple at Cambodia?(It's in Civilization : Call to Power)

But yeah, that's like asking Hugh Laurie what a subdermal haematoma is.

You know...I really should've seen this coming before I posted that comment. Okay, so how many of you knew the date that King Tut was unearthed without a wiki?

Not in any game I know about so I'll guess at 1810.

Wiki says 1922. I didn't have a clue either except that it was no earlier than 1910 because I've seen the film footage of them opening it up. And then subsequently being killed by the enraged Crypt Demons.

Is anyone actually expecting a model to know the ins and outs of archeology? She is simply there to smile and be taken pictures of, that's her deal.

Damn, I was off by five years. My guess was 1927. Oh, and I knew what Angkor Wat was...learned about it in Illusion of Gaia.

I only knew Angor Wat due to it being in Civilization. I'm now learning American Governing by playing Fallout 3.
