Embrace The Holiday Spirit With This Live-Action Gauntlet

What makes a Holiday party even more fun than friends, food, and presents? How about fighting off hordes of retro monsters?

The Gauntlet videogame franchise has been dormant since 2005's Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows came out for the last generation of consoles. As a result, the classic series is largely forgotten by the general gaming populace. That's why it's a bit surprising to see the video series <a href=https://www.facebook.com/cooplifepresents>Co-Op Life feature the game in its new Christmas-themed video, though the end result is full of holiday charm.

The video tells the story of four friends who meet up for a small holiday party, only to find themselves under siege by various monsters who populated the Atari classic. In turn, the group ends up adopting the weapons of the different character classes and proceed to battle these holiday hordes. On top of this, the video features what sounds like narration from the original game.

Overall, the video is pretty adorable. I'm a particular fan of the 3D models used to represent the old-school monsters and the heroic weaponry. Co-Op Life doesn't have a lot of videos online yet, but between this and the other two on <a href=http://www.youtube.com/user/seecofilms>the group's YouTube channel, they've certainly put out some quality productions. Keep an eye on these people: They seem destined for great things.

Red Octafish needs nostalgia badly. I tell you the memories came flooding back. I wonder if the Fish and Chip shop in Barwon Heads still has its cabinet? Damn it, I just realized how much time has passed since then, 23 years. The Fish and Chip shop has probably gone along with the cabinet.

Shots do not hurt other players (yet), [http://www.basementarcade.com/arcade/guant/levelchange.wav]

I'm wondering how many people will think the monsters are Minecraft ones though.

I miss Gauntlet. We're finally reaching a time when co-op is an important feature, and Gauntlet was all about co-op. Too bad Midway is sunk, taking Gauntlet with it. I'd love to play some kick ass classic style right about now. Gauntlet 64 and Dark Legacy are two of the most memorable games I've played. Not from anything impressive, just from the sheer number of times I played them with friends.

Looked more like things from 3D Dot Game Heroes.
