Freeze Mob Overruns Times Square With Lightsabers

How do you make a Star Wars freeze mob extra-cool? Fill it with some great poses and costumes, and make sure that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere in sight.

When it comes to launch events for Star Wars: The Old Republic, staging a giant battle between the Jedi and the Sith in Times Square is a pretty cool way to kick things off. That said, folks walking through the area got a little something extra when said fight scene turned into a massive freeze mob that was jam-packed with Force powers and lightsabers.

As you can see in the video, things start off pretty cool with some beautifully-costumed Sith and Jedi warriors squaring off in Times Square. As the first strike lands, each dueling pair freezes in place, striking some pretty epic poses. But that's not the best part: A crowd of 100 fans joins in on the action out, also freeing in place.

I would have loved to be a part of this (or even see it in person). While The Old Republic has a huge amount of hype surrounding it, the fact that the marketing folks behind the game were willing to engage in something like this is pretty great.

That is damn awesome. And suddenly, Jedi/Siths everywhere!

Also, EA's marketing has improved xD.

EDIT:Anyone else think that the Sith Acolyte masks look like the Falconer from Predators?

hah this is pretty cool, i've always wanted to see one happen or be apart of one for the lulz (star wars themed would be cool, but just any one in general.)

in b4 guild wars 2 comment about it being better

That's pretty cool, even though I'm conflicted on whether I want to (eventually, don't have the computer for it now) play The Old Republic. On one hand, I hear it plays much like KotOR. And I love KotOR, and really love KotOR II (yes, I mean their gameplay and not just the stories). On the other hand, I'm not happy with the retcons. I'm reading the Revan novel now, and they are pretending like everything that makes the Exile so significant doesn't even exist. It's not a minor kind of retcon. It's the basis for her character. It's what KotOR II's story revolves around, and it's not even been mentioned once.

Buuut I guess this isn't the place to discuss that. I would have flipped out in joy if I were in the crowd and this even happened. Star Wars still makes me feel like a kid.

That's some pretty god damn awesome costumes! Makes my FX Lightsabers very sad that they don't have a costume like that to go with them!

"Freeze mob"? I'm pretty sure it's flash mob, I googled "freeze mob" and I got nothing that was unrelated to this story.

It would be hard not to improve.
This was EPIC.

If their marketing department keeps doing cool stuff like this and don't revert back I'll, maybe, start buying their games again.

It's a big maybe. They're still the biggest douche bags in the business and that's a big accomplishment.

I assume its something made up since most flash mobs have people moving and stuff while this one had everyone 'frozen', hence freeze mob. Or maybe it is just a mistake and I'm looking to far into it.

Oh, I get it. Wow, now I feel stupid. I guess this is what I get for not actually watching the video XD

Good video. I take it those crowds with the lightsabers were extra or something otherwise some of them would of run off with the lightsaber (who wouldn't unless you already got one).

Or they could be people that were asked if they wanted to join and then were given a free lightsaber. It was a promotion, after all.

Okay, that was actually rather cool. At least, not an ad by EA that sends gamers running away in shame.

I came here expecting something cringe-inducing. I was already going over potential scathing comments I could make in response.

But that was actually pretty cool. The costumes were decent and the second lot of people were a nice touch.

That was pretty damn awesome although it just got kind of weird when all the civilians pulled out Lightsabers. Should have just kept it Sith vs jedi
