Gears of War Toy Line Promises Fun for the Little Ones

A new Erector set lets children play with smaller versions of Delta Squad's favorite rides (Locust corpses not included).

UK-Based Erector [http://www.meccano.com/] in the States) is setting up to launch a Gears of War themed toy line. The construction sets, which are awaiting final approval by Epic Games, will include three vehicles from the series, and gives kids a chance to play "smash the Locust's head underfoot" with Marcus and the rest of the gang.

The first line of Gears of War construction sets will run from £24.99 to £39.99 GBP (or approximately $39 to $62 USD), and will consist of the King Raven helicopter, Armadillo APC and the Centaur Tank, and will be available in August of this year. Like most Erector sets, construction will be required, though I imagine the amount of swearing involved will depend on the builder. Future sets, rumored to include a large-size diorama, are also in the works.

It will be interesting to see if any controversy arises from this new arm of Gears merchandising given how these toys may be aimed towards a younger audience, while the series is clearly not, what with the chainsaw bayonets, swearing, and decapitation and all. But then again, Halo happens to have its own the 18+ crowd, [http://halo.megabloks.com/en] and there's been very little (if any) negative press over its Megablok kits.

Maybe its just me but I think trying to get young kids interested in "Gears of War" games is kinda wrong.

So when do the plans for the Lancer get released?

First reaction was that the Gears of War series isn't really aimed at children so why have essentially toys for it?

Second reaction was childish giggling over Mecanno being called "Erector".

Err if the toy are to encourage the kid to get the kid, they won't be to buy it due to the fact it's a mature game. Sure a Lancer in Meccano form would be cool but I can easily see the children getting hurt from fighting each other using it.

Why the hell are they aiming at little kids? This is just as bad as when they made "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm St." games for the NES. The games industry should have learned by now. -_-

Yes, because Gears of War is fun for the whole family! Watch and smile as your children enjoy chainsawing a Locust soldier in half and having its blood splatter all over your TV.

Seems legit to me. (LMAO.)

Uggg, why can't these be in lego creations. I wish both the Gears and the Halo ones were legos as (well, the megablock versions anyway) are really crappy and can barely be played with (They don't stick well together and break really easily).

I mean honestly, why go for the younger crowd (as on the sight the highest age is 8+) when 1. The kids would be too young to actually know about Gears of War, 2. The parents would hardly ever let their kids play with toys like that and 3. Lego actually has mature sets for all (well, at lest teens anyway, but that's still way better) ages.

/end rage

I think the only reason I'm mad is because these would be so much better as legos (plus the fact I love legos).
